Movie Reviews of High Plains Drifter

Movie Review: Stark, shocking, and unforgettable
Summary: 5 Stars

If you're not sure what you're getting into, HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER may repulse you. It's shocking, cruel, immoral, violent, and outright sadistic. Man, is it great! Eastwood takes "The Man With No Name" persona and pushes him into a new realm, sucking all essence of humanity out of him and creating a striking, mesmerizing, and unique "hero". The film almost becomes an oblique work of art, and this plus its harshness might turn-off the more conventional film goer. But there's no denying the film's power and quality.

Movie Review: Clint Eastwood masterpiece
Summary: 5 Stars

High Plains Drifter is not your typical western. It is a multi-level Clint Eastwood masterpiece that combines gritty western with dark humor and psychological mindplay. Drifter is almost Alfred Hitchcock-like in its delivery of serious imagery and characterizations. Excellent performances by the entire cast with Eastwood leading the way through the miserable lives of the pathetic citizens of Lagos. The people get a good mental spanking by the man with no name, and, in the end, he leaves you with a thing or two to think about.

Movie Review: Clint said he played the bereaved brother
Summary: 5 Stars

A powerfully moving film, directed and acted with subtlety. The story engages the viewer from the beginning to the end, and this is not a story easily forgotten. One comment, a previous reviewer asserted with certainty the stranger was the ghost of the marshall, but Clint Eastwood himself has said this is not so. On his official website he is quoted as saying "In High Plains Drifter he is the bereaved brother who comes back and persecutes the people for their apathy or corruption."

Movie Review: Classic western
Summary: 5 Stars

One of my favorite Eastwood westerns that I come back to often because it's so very good. A town with an ugly secret sees a nameless drifter as a blessing that will help rid them of bad guys let out of jail and on their way to get revenge on the townspeople. But is the nameless drifter an angel sent to save them, or the devil sent to make them pay for the evil deed they've done? It'll keep your eyes glued to the screen.

Movie Review: They'll never forget the day this Stranger came to down.
Summary: 5 Stars

Clint stars and directs in this sinister story about a mysreious stranger who rides into a frontier town and is hired to protect the town from three men who are getting released from jail, but the town's folk soon realise that they need protection from the stranger who seems to have a grudge against the town. Strong performances from all involved especially Clint.
