Movie Reviews of Hideous KinkyMovie Review: A work of Art! Summary: 5 Stars
I really enjoyed this film! Kate Winslet is brilliant as an adventure- seeking mother of two daughters which she drags around all over Morocco in search of fun and love with a handsome Moroccan man, Bilal. What she doesn't realize is that her selfish desire for adventure could easily put her two daughters in the hands of danger in a third- world country. After becoming a HUGE star with Titanic, Kate Winslet chose to do this adorable little film that she loved even though she could have chosen much bigger roles that were offered to her. Hideous Kinky is for people who can truly respect a charming and colorful movie, love of fun and adventure, and true romanticism. Kate Winslet is wonderful, and the two little girls, Be and Lucy are adorable! Only for the truly creative to enjoy!
Movie Review: Beautiful and Intriguing Summary: 5 Stars
Julia (Kate Winslet) is a mother in search of enlightenment and religious discovery (Sufism) -- with her two lovely daugthers, she journeys to exotic Morocco to find what she is searching for. This movie is very well directed, and the performances of Winslet, Said Taghmaoui (Bilal), Bella Rizza (Bea), and Carrie Mullan (Lucy), are extraordinary. For some, Julia will seem to be the worst of the self-absorbed, selfish, deluded, irresponsible mothers of all time. But, as a single mother myself, I truly felt a kinship with her in wanting to give her children a sense of adventure. For all of the characters, adventure is a great teacher bestowing extravagant gifts memorable enough to last a lifetime.
Movie Review: In my Top Three all time favorites. Summary: 5 Stars
There is not much I can say about this movie that hasn't been said beautifully by others. I saw this when I was around 20 years old and it left an indelible impression on me. I am truly grateful for Kate Winslet to have chosen to tell this story. I think that her character is based on the granddaughter of Freud to to be especially familiar for me, as I come from a family of Freudians and yet I too am of similar spirit to Julia. However I only learned that fact after watching it and loving it already. If you enjoyed this movie as I have, I also recommend 'Holy Smoke' which she made with Harvey Keitel before this movie. It is similar but also very different.
Movie Review: Absolutely brilliant Summary: 5 Stars
Kate Winslet absolutely shines in this tale of a young mother escaping "boring" London with her two young daughters. Julia (Winslet) and her daughters travel to Morocco to "find answers" and go on a journey. Of course, Julia finds love and a father figure for her daughters. Visually stunning and brilliantly acted, Hidious Kinky is an off-beat, yet highly rewarding film. If you're tired of Hollywood movies, see this film for a unique viewing experience.
Movie Review: One of my favorites for simple reasons. Summary: 5 Stars
It is an entertaining and interesting movie, simply stated. I love it enough to include it in my personal library. It is well acted, visually stimulating (great locale shots), substantial in plot, (especially if you grew up in the 60's as I did), and has a really excellent soundtrack. What more could you ask for? You must ask yourself, "for a relatively unknown movie, why are there so many reviews on Amazon.com?" There you go.
