Movie Review: A Sophisticated Set of Plays For Intellectuals, but I enjoyed it anyway

When I view these plays, I think that there are probably others much more "intellectual" types who are enjoying them more than I am. <grin> As I continue through each play though, and some of it is a slow slog with lots of words and little action, I find that I do care about the characters. The ending is never what I thought it might be. The characters are played by actors' actors. The scenes are typical for plays. The people are very much different from the people in my own life and it was difficult to relate to them.
I watched one last night where very serious events were happening to the characters. I didn't care. These are people who are living life on a cloud somewhere. They have no substance to them unless they have a sudden awakening in the last minute which changes everything, which is just not very believable. That's the way plays work though, I suppose, and if you enjoy plays, these are interesting. They also work great if you are having trouble sleeping. I'm only partially joking about that.
If you are looking for an action movie, this is NOT it.
If you want something you will probably remember in that it makes you think, you love plays, and if you don't mind slow-going plots, you may enjoy this collection.
My own conclusion is that watching them, I didn't think I liked them very much, until the end of each one. The next day, the plot was in my mind, which rarely happens with most movies I watch. That tells me these were masterfully done and did what they were intended to do. They made me think.
I can see that back before we all spent so much time in front of our televisions, the slow pace would have been appropriate, even necessary. Today it's a little more difficult to slow our own pace down so we can enjoy the view.
This collection is a pleasant break from what I usually enjoy.
