Movie Reviews of Hellraiser - InfernoMovie Review: This Was What Hellraiser Was Meant To Be! Summary: 5 Stars
I would first like to address all those who don't consider this a Hellraiser movie. You are the ones that jumped on the Hellraiser bandwagon with Hell on Earth and Bloodline. Well since you people probabally never saw 1 + 2, the series was made to have Pinhead on screen for a short time. Thank God Dimension decided to go back to old school Hellraisin! This one sees Pinhead once again as the judge and jury of hell(as he should have been all along), as a corrupt cop is in his own living hell and doesn't know it. Pinhead is there to put him in his place. The only gripe I had with the film was that the original Hellraiser music was not there. The movie combines horror with crime drama. The movie is very gory and sometimes quite creepy. Having a good sound system should enhance the experience, especially with a Dolby 5.1 mix. Although features on the DVD are limited, they should be welcomed by Hellraiser fans. They include 4 short video clips that explain FAQ's about the Lament Configuration. There is also a 10-minute interview with Doug Bradley that is very informative. Some trailers also appear on the disc for Scream Boxed Set and Bloodline. If you don't want to wait for a price drop on the VHS, then get this DVD now. Perfect addition to the Hellraiser series.
Movie Review: Someone has gotten in right....finally Summary: 5 Stars
Being a fan of "The Hellbound Heart", Clive Barker's novella that "Hellraiser" was based off of, I thoroughly enjoyed "Hellraiser: Inferno". We follow the everyday life of a man who is quite the scumbag. We see how he treats his friends, his family, and himself, but the funny thing is we shrug since we probably know someone like this. Taking the cues from "The Helbound Heart", we don't even deal with Pinhead or the other cenobites (which amazingly, someone got right too). We instead deal with how sad and decrepit this man is and before we know it, we're living out his Hell. Everytime he thinks that he's got it right, Hell pulls the rug out from under him. Now, I've never been a fan of "Let's go and find a way to kill Pinhead!" Why can a person kill a denizen of Hell, and why should they be allowed to? They're only doing their job. Hands called them, they deal out pleasure and pain. This reads more like a tale of the Hellraiser mythos, and in doing that works very well. This director and this script writer did their research. Funny thing is, I hear that in "Fangora" magazine, Clive Barker panned the movie....cause they didn't want him involved. I think in doing that, they finally got back to what made this a very compelling idea.
Movie Review: It's Infernal ! Summary: 5 Stars
We all know that Clive Barker frowned on it,but it's still HELLRAISER.Perhaps what really dismayed master Clive was the lack of extremely gory scenes(where are they ?) and of course the fact that no one consulted him (between us,if I were master Clive,I would have gotten upset,if I had not been insulted by the producers). As to the movie, the essence was kept,so it is still a fine movie. It could have been better, but all in all I enjoy(ed) it a lot.Pinhead can be seen here as much as he can be seen in part 1.The Cenobites don't appear much like in part 1.They're really mysterious and nothing about them is revealed. What made a lot of HELLRAISER fans get mad is that the CENOBITES are just watchers, not torturers like in part 1.The chatterer just follows the tortured corrupt police officer, who is seduced in a bizarre and original way by 2 (fe)male cenobites. The faceless cenobite is the only one that kills - Pinhead is like a judge from hell - he explains why the cop is going through that ordeal(everybody thinks he's a serial killer)and then gives his verdict based on real evidence. The movie does hold your attention, but don't try to compare this movie with the other HELLRAISER installments, you may get disappointed.I am not.
Movie Review: Hellraiser with story again Summary: 5 Stars
I read through most of the reviews here and decided that I needed to add my opinion so that this movie is not so misrepresented. In a way, this is 3 reviews as 2 of my friends have spoken similar to me on this.Inferno has turned from the Gore path that is fairly prevailant in horror these days. So much so, that I would say that there is about 90% less gore than the other hellraiser films. It is the psychological aspect of this movie and the emotional torment that is the foundation. Combine the movie "Seven", "Lord of Illusions", with a touch of "hellraiser 1" and this is your movie. It will keep you thinking and wondering. The effects were actually very good because they were simple and not the foundation of the movie (like so many horror movies today). Bottom line, if you like Hellraiser as it really is and not the hack and slash gorefest that is typically associated with it, and appreciate the mythology created by Clive Barker and the exploration of torment and pleasure, then watch this movie. It is definitely worth getting on DVD for the special features and, in my opinion, a very welcome and long awaited addition to anyones Hellraiser movie collection.
Movie Review: Closer to the original than the past 2 Summary: 5 Stars
People have whined and cried that this entry in the Hellraiser series lacked the gore and Pinhead factor that the past two films held. I don't know where...these Die HArd Fans come from (are they really such huge fans of 3 and 4) that they forget one key factor, Pinhead as well as his fellow Cenobites played a relativly small role in both Hellriaser 1 and 2, around a half hour apiece if I remember right. So it was no surprise that in this entry to the series that they go back to roots, Pinhead playing a small role and the tortures of MAn taking control. The movie stars Craig Sheffer as a crooked cop who at a crime scene steels the Box (as well as some Cocaine). After spending the night with a hooker he opens the box. From there his world is turned upside down as a mysteriouse killer takes out people he knows, to include the hooker... This movie basically shows what Pinhead is all about, not World Domination or a Grudge MAtch against a specific family, but torturing those who open the box, as was his purpose. This is truely closer to the first film than the past two entries and lets hope it stays that way.
