Movie Review: Friends with differring views of honor and duty
Summary: 4 Stars

This story follows 3 friends into the first world war where their sense of duty and honor are tested. Each has different views on what it is to be honorable and each will pay a price for his commitment. In the midst of it all, two brothers are torn by love for the same woman. Along the way are some of the best aerial combat sequences ever put to film. The characters and the action make this one of the all time greats of military-themed movies.

Made many years before the age of graphic animations replacing live flying scenes, this movie is an air war enthusiast's prized asset.
Howard Hughes, himself a pilot, spared no expense in getting scores of airplanes built and hired former combat pilots of WWI for the flying shots in this movie. One owes a debt of gratitude to those technicians who painstakingly restored a high quality DVD from brittle old reels of the original movie.

Movie Review: Bringd Back The Past!!
Summary: 4 Stars

Originally saw this film in a major theater during my youthful years and compared that memory with the present viewing of the DVD. Found the DVD restored my memory pleasantly. Although there is no full recall of all details, the salient ones are the unsatisfactory color by today's standards. and the over-dramatic acting of the players--perhaps this is due to the period recently entered from the silent era into the "Vitaphone" era.

Movie Review: Amazing combat sequences

Given that no special effects were used and that the film took two years to complete.... the aerial combat sequences are fantastic. The plot-lines are trivial, but universal. I think that the horrors of a seemingly endless war in Europe are well presented. This quite an enjoyable film, particularly if you are conversant with Howard Hughs dedication to get it made.
