Movie Reviews of Heima

Movie Review: Wow. Just...wow.
Summary: 5 Stars

OK, maybe Sigur Ros isn't the type of music to drive around tapping your toes to, but watching this on the plasma screen and cranking the surround sound was truly an experience to behold. The last song "Popplagid" (also known as Number 8 on the untitled CD) was a whirlwind that left me as high as a kite. Amazing scenery of Iceland as well.

Movie Review: Amazing. Absolutely awesome
Summary: 5 Stars

Probably in the top three music DVDs I've ever seen. Absolutely incredible. If you're even a casual fan of Sigur Ros, this is a must buy. Touching, beautiful, professional, emotion evoking, even dare I say spiritual. If you're even on the fence, just buy it. You'll be glad you did.

Movie Review: Mezmorizing and Beautiful
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie was so captivating and beautiful. The music is already very atmospheric and seeing the visuals of where it was created was a perfect compliment to the music. Let it transport you to Iceland!

Movie Review: Heima
Summary: 5 Stars

I finally got the chance to view Heima, the new DVD by Sigur Rós, the Icelandic post-rock band. It is, on its surface, a chronicle of a series of concerts the group performed in Iceland throughout the summer of 2006. I've seen them perform before, but this is far more than just a concert film. It is a beautiful tribute to Iceland and its people, transporting and transcendent.

Regardless of what the music Sigur Rós is (and there are certainly grounds for serious criticism of it, it is not for every taste) I have never seen a musical film so accurately and deeply connect with the culture that gave it birth and nurtured it.

There are some minimal interviews with members of Sigur Rós and Amiina, (their four- woman string section); they come across as egoless as could possibly be imagined. One section of the film has the eight of them in a recording studio, playing acoustically, demonstrating a group-mind-set that is almost unnerving.

The box set comes with an artistic photo album and another DVD of full-length concert performances.

Movie Review: Joy for the Eyes and Ears
Summary: 5 Stars

For any and all who have already encountered (and, thus, fallen in love with) this Icelandic "quartet" of sorts, this DVD not only provides an indispensable glimpse into the country that made them, but is itself an overwhelmingly beautiful experience. I recommend it to anyone who loves beauty, truth, and goodness. Buy it -- watch it -- show your friends. And turn off your TV.
