My husband and I are stationed in Germany with the US Army. Due to having a baby over here I asked my mother to find something that would teach me lamaze and relaxation techniques. She sent me this DVD and I really think its the best money that was spent on my pregnancy! I used all the techniques during my labor and was able to deliver my son without an epidural. They did start a form of Tylenol in my IV but that only took the edge off of a few of the HARD contractions. Having a focal place (happy place) really helps. The Breathing Techniques are a way of playing a game with your mind and taking the focuse off of the painful contractions and placing it in a more useful place...staying in control! Yes this DVD was filmed in the 80's but everything they teach is so relevent. I practiced religiously for 3 months before I delivered my son so I would have to say practicing also helps. Yes you feel stupid and look silly but who cares if you are able to help yourself during labor and arent the woman screaming her head off in the other room!

Taught by two certified instructors who are OB nurses, this is the only video course that teaches the complete method. Lamaze seeks to reduce pain through relaxation achieved by massage, focus, and a series of breathing techniques. The instructors share an easy rapport, demonstrating the exercises on each other before a roomful of couples and thoroughly explaining the purpose of labor, how to know when it begins, and its three stages. They describe medications and birth complications and include footage of both a natural Lamaze childbirth and a Caesarian delivery. While this tape was clearly shot in the 1980s (the hair styles and fashions are amusingly outdated), it does have new computer-generated diagrams, and the medical information seems up to date.
