Movie Review: A Direct puts himself in the main role? Wow!

I have to hand it to the director. While many wanna-bes and wish to bes shoot down his film... He did it. The disc alone is worth it on inspirational value alone. It shows that when you go to great lengths you can do anything. Sporting a cameo of an old Bruce Campbell tv shot and Gunnar Hansen himself, it's a story of that devil and angel in all of us. Fully documented from day one onward in the extras.
I'm not a big fan of the film. The acting is a bit weak and the director casting himself as the main character seems a bit over confident as he wasn't so convincing. At least, his acting was better than most of the other.
The story is also weak, although it was done well and it had more meaning than most notice. More character development was needed and was ignored. Random murders of women was supposed to be his step dad coming out of him? I understand the point and truth to this but, it just isn't built up enough in the film in a film way. I'd say it did for TV. I would hope the director would continue to make films. This is how evil dead was born and other classics from places we'd never expect. I mean, did you ever see "Within The woods" the project that got evil dead some of it's funding? The fact is this doesn't feel or seem like much of a horror film and it was marketed that way. Maybe a few elements could have been touched up. Most of the work and the ambition that went into the film make it worth the watching. People have been too harsh on it. It's not 5 star material but it's not worthless either.
