Movie Reviews of Harvey

Movie Review: Great Movie For Anyone
Summary: 5 Stars

Harvey is, to sum it up, a delightful movie. Jimmy Stewart does a wonderful job portraying Elwood P. Dowd, a loveable character with a pooka named Harvey as his best friend. The movie never fails to be entertaining no matter how many times you've seen it. If you want an escape from all of the junk on TV now which is filled with foul language, watch Harvey... it's one of the most decent things I've ever seen. Elwood is "oh, so pleasant" and that makes the entire movie light and very enjoyable.

If are looking for a fun movie to enjoy, this is for you! (If you want to see another good, decent movie, I really recommend 'You Can't Take it With You', which has Stewart also).

Movie Review: A Film without effects
Summary: 5 Stars

Harvey is a film without effects. It does what every film or book should do, it stimulates your imagination. I grew up in the age of special effects and Star Wars and ILM wizardry. Were this movie to be made today there would be some mystical rabbit in some form floating around that we all could see(Think of maybe Roger Rabbit or Jar-Jar Binks). Because there is no rabbit, it only isolates those people who can see the mysterious Pooka of which Elwood speaks. Jimmy Stewart's performance is one of the best in his career. Don't waste time on effects, focus on the character that develops in Jimmy Stewart, and the way his character changes those around him.

Movie Review: Pooka of a movie.
Summary: 5 Stars

Just saw the movie which I remember seing as a little girl(A long time ago).I can only say it is a TIMELESS classic. You, begin to believe in Harvey! The commentary from J.Stewart was good too. Also learning that the story was penned to relieve a neighbour's sad loss of her son in WWII war was quite touching. The acting was faultless from Elwood P Dowd to his lovable sister and the "Nut house " doctor who pleads to have
Harvey for himself. It is fantasy whith astute human's behaviour observed.
As Mr Stewart remakes "I tried smart now I prefer nice".The movie brings to mind who is sane and who should be locked up.

Movie Review: Elwood Dowd a drunk? I think not!
Summary: 5 Stars

Even if Mr Dowd was a drunk, I'm sure he'd never come right out and explicitly accuse another of, um, indulging to excess. I don't believe Mr Dowd is anything of the sort; why are only drunks permitted unusual insights? Was the prophet Samuel a drunk? Hardly. Of the entire cast of characters, Mr Dowd is the only truly civilized individual; while the doctors and the nurse approach decency, they are afflicted with the conviction that they are entitled to judge others' ways of life. No, gentle friends, if you enjoy the company of decent, civilized individuals, warm and generous to a fault, I suggest acquiring a copy of this lovely tale.

Movie Review: Comic Fantasy
Summary: 5 Stars

Elwood P. Dowd(Jimmy Stewart)entertains you with his constant companion - a six foot tall rabbit that only he can see. Of course, this highly annoys his sister whose plans to marry off her daughter are threatened by Elwood's obsession with Harvey(the rabbit); she decides to have Elwood committed to a mental hospital. Then the fun begins: a funny mix-up at the hospital and she finds herself committed instead and it is up to Elwood to get her out of this erroneous mess with the help of his imaginary frind, Harvey. You will be entertained to the very end of the film when a startling fact emerges concerning Harvey
