Movie Reviews of HarveyMovie Review: I wish Elwood P. Dowd was in my town Summary: 5 Stars
I am sure you have already read the plot for this story so I will not go into that I just wanted to tell you what this movie means to me.
I enjoy watching this movie at anytime!!
Laugh if you will, but the times that I watch it the most is when I "have had it up to here" (with people, things, etc.) I guess it just kinda renews my faith in mankind. I do wish that Elwood P. Dowd was living in my town. I would be his best friend, right after Harvey!!! We three could have alot of fun together!!
My favorite quote from this movie is when Elwood says, "My mother always told me in this world Elwood, she always called me Elwood, in this world Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant. For years I was smart, I recommend pleasant. You may quote me." Not a bad philosophy to live by. I have proven it to be the best way to live in this world.
Movie Review: We all need a Harvey in our lives Summary: 5 Stars
OK. First off this is not my typical brand of "noir", there's no blood and even less sex. However, this film will always remain a classic, for me anyhow. I must of seen it at least a dozen times by now, yet, it alway is the stale bread toasted to freshness. It's a pure delight, light yes, still there's that undercurrent of reality, Mr. James pulls off so well. Also, unlike the bloody Wizarad of Oz (I know this is film blasphamy, to say anything against Oz.) I was was never disappointed as a child, this wasn't a dream. Hey its a sick violent world out there (thank god), still it's nice to have some simple smiles, pulled off your face in land far away. See you at the bar looking for my pooka. (sorry if I spelled that wronge). Also why does the DVD refer to Harvey as six feet, I believe Jimmmy was six-three and harvey is six foot seven. Just wondering.
Movie Review: I've Never Met A Pooka I Didn't Like Summary: 5 Stars
'Harvey' was released in '50 and fits into the category of "oldie but goodie." James Stewart is at his funniest in the role of Elwood P. Dowd, a overly gregarious, middle-aged man who enjoys making new acquaintances, drinking too much and spending time with his best friend Harvey, a six foot tall white rabbit that is visible only to Elwood.
When Elwood's sister Veta (Josephine Hull) decides to have him committed to a local sanitorium Elwood must prove his sanity by establishing the existence of his invisible friend to Doctor Chumley (Cecil Kellaway), the resident physician in charge of admissions.
This is one of the great comedy classics of the fifties with an essemble cast to die for. This DVD belongs in every serious film fans personal library!
Movie Review: One of James Stewart finest... Summary: 5 Stars
Elwood P. Dowd's (James Stewart) best friend is an invisible 6-foot rabbit named Harvey with whom he likes to spend his time with in bars drinking. This is something most people in Elwood's hometown find disturbing so his sister attempts to put Elwood in a mental institution. However, Elwood is perfectly happy with his situation and with Harvey. Harvey is a story that depicts two sides, one pessimistic and one optimistic. The gloomy side presents problems such as alcoholism, isolation, and cynicism. However, these negative issues are presented through light comedy and Elwood's positive view of life, which is a result of his friend Harvey. This story offers a blissful journey, which presents moments of self-reflection and amusement.
Movie Review: The six foot rabbit! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm 19 years old and I'm not particularly interested in old movies. But this movie is great no matter how old it is! It would be a shame for anyone to pass this movie up just because it isn't highly commercialized or the most popular movie being watched right now. I can't think of anyone who could watch "Harvey" and not be able to walk away from the movie happier. "Harvey" has a charm to it that you can't find in any other movie. It's so innocent and clean ,and it has a style of humor all it's own. Not only will this movie keep you entertained and interested ,but it will also leave you feeling good. It's something that you never get to experience with any sort of movie today.
