Movie Reviews of Harsh Times

Movie Review: A study in self-destructive behavior
Summary: 4 Stars

Christian Bale (Jim Davis) is really psychotic in this movie. And he takes Freddy Rodriguez (Mike Alonzo) on this ride of deception, rip-offs, lies, self-indulgence and violence. Just when you think he's changing his ways, Davis sinks deeper into a morass that leads he and Mike to places and circumstances out of their control. Eva Longoria is the long-suffering Sylvia, Rodiguez's girlfriend who must put up with Mike and Jim's sick antics (mostly unbeknownst to her). The end wasn't shocking, but well expected, seeing the deadly path Bale was taking as the movie progressed. Bleak and pathetic existence of two friends, seemingly going nowhere but down.

Movie Review: I bought this movie in spite of the reviews here....
Summary: 4 Stars

...and I'm glad I did. It was an excellent movie! A MUST-SEE for Bale fans.

When I saw the trailer for the movie, I was pretty excited about seeing it. However, I read the reviews here and put off buying it. Well, I finally saw it and loved it. Christian Bale was excellent and the supporting cast was very good as well. The plot was NOT disjointed like some reviewers wrote but actually pretty decent. There was plenty of tension filled suspense until the very end.

I must say that Christian Bale really puts a lot into his role, and elevates the movie to 4 stars.

Movie Review: A tense study in self-destruction
Summary: 4 Stars

These two are heading down the wrong highway and they can't stop themselves. Almost every scene in this low profile sleeper is crammed with tension and the feeling that things may just go off the rails at any moment. This would be a b-movie film noir if it had been made in the 50s. It's a nice throwback. My only complaint is the unrealistic ending. I won't spoil it, but suffice to say it's highly unlikely that someone would be able to get away free with what transpires here. Bale is extraordinary as the psycho ex-Marine. Watch if you don't mind getting a little tensed up.

Movie Review: EXCELLENT THRILLER
Summary: 4 Stars

Produced by the main actor of the film, Christian Bale, and written and directed by David Ayer who already wrote the screenplay of TRAINING DAY and DARK BLUE. Spectacular road movie in Los Angeles featuring two friends: a psychopath who wants to be hired by the F.B.I. and the weak-willed boy-friend of the lawyer Eva Longoria. Haunting.

Movie Review: Christian Bale is two thumbs UP
Summary: 4 Stars

I don't quite like the story, it is not that good but Christian Bale's performance is amazing and Freddy Rodríguez's performance is great as well. I give it 4 stars because of the performance, not the story...
