Movie Reviews of Harsh Times

Movie Review: HARSH TIMES, PURE ADRENALINE!!!
Summary: 4 Stars

man this movie was over the top. great movie, with a good story behind it. yea, it's similar to training day, but this has it's own unique touch as well. denzel washington, magnificent actor did his thing. no doubt, but here christian bale totally transformed into an out of control psycho. just flew off the handle. great performance. you were actually scared of him at some point. freddy rodriguez this guys just so adorable. i thought he did just fine, right along side eva. she's the caring girlfriend who wants a good man by her side. saw a good bit of her talent. and freddy's trying to be strait, but it's hard when you got somebody like bale as a friend. their always getting drunk, wasted, and suppose to be looking for work, but not in the least bit following through. it's a roller coaster of a ride they get into trouble, they mess with the wrong people, and sometimes it's a little to late to right all the wrongs. that's what happens when people come back from the military without any therapy, they get all twisted inside, and this is a good film showcasing just that.

Movie Review: Excellent film
Summary: 4 Stars

This film isn't for the faint of heart or for anyone who wants escapist fare. It's dark. The story clocks the dis-integration of ex-Army Ranger Jim Davis. After serving in the Middle East, he cannot successfully integrate back into society. Davis is a right ba*tard, the personification of an antihero. What made me care about his character was the tenderness he showed his girlfriend in the beginning, a couple of brief flashes of decency and/or loyalty, a hint that he had the potential to be something more than a thug killer. Davis has a restless intelligence ("I see stupid people" as he finishes the aptitude test while the other applicants are still scratching their heads), but he no longer owns his own soul.

Christian Bale owns the role of Jim Davis. The film's dialog and pacing are spot-on. If you're looking for character redemption, you'd better pass on it, though.

Movie Review: Small Film with Incredible Bale Performance
Summary: 4 Stars

Most films about gang life in LA are just ridiculous films that are better left to condensed music videos on MTV. Of course Bale steals the show by playing a character you want to see saved but fear to be around. Watch this film to the last shocking moment and you will empathize with Rodriguez's potrayal of a friend trapped in this claustorphobic friendship of an ex-soldier on the verge of exploding into full blown psychopath. If you've seen Batman Begins and The Prestige, watch this film and you'll be amazed at how unique Christian Bale can potray each of these characters so vividly. Without Bale this film would just be a typical straight to DVD feature, but Bale sells his performance and provides frightening realism to this film.

Movie Review: Interesting Movie, great performances, Definitely Harsh time.
Summary: 4 Stars

I can't see why this movie is taking such a thrashing. It's actually decent, and very reminissent of training day...which both films are from the same director. It was slow at points, but I was captured in the plot because I wanted to see How the whole thing would fall appart...and it eventually does. One other reviewer said he didn't see right away Christian Bale's character was crazy, no, to me it was pretty clear. And Rodriguez's performance was great as well. This I feel is a gem of a movie, especially the acting, just poorly promoted. THe storyline is unique as well. Check it out, its different, in a good way. It makes you think about our soldiers and also those we hire for police and security as well.

Movie Review: Look a little deeper...
Summary: 4 Stars

...and search your feelings (not to sound too much like Yoda). People who didn't like this movie either simply did not get the deeper meaning, or were expecting another glossy hollywood action movie. Listen up America, there are a lot of damaged kids coming back from Lil' Bushies War; beware, if we ignore them there will come time to "pay the piper". They walk among you, they hold good paying high profile "respectable" jobs; however, if you had any idea what goes on inside thier heads - you would hide under your bed. People who do not suffer the anguish of PTSD may never truly be able to understand what this movie represents. This movie is not about creating a "likeable character", it is about harsh reality.
