Movie Review: Like I'm there...
Summary: 5 Stars
I have never seen better acting. This is based on the events in Harlan County, Ky. during the early 1970's strike. Holly Hunter and Ted Levine are the main characters. Ted is the miner/husband/father Silas Kincaide and Holly is the wife/mom Ruby Kincaide. Stellar Skarsgard plays Warren Jacopovich, UMWA organizer. His character is loosely-based on Paul Jablonsky, a real UMWA organizer, who was murdered, along with his wife and daughter, by company-hired assassin.
The accents, expressions, and portrayals are very accurate. The acting is first rate. Nothing labored in this labor movie. Best film ever.
Summary of Harlan County War
Academy Award-winning actress Holly Hunter stars as Ruby, the wife of a coal miner in Harlan County, Kentucky. After two senseless deaths, the union calls a strike against the mining company. What follows is one of the most violent, bitter and notorious union battles in history.
