Movie Review: HARDBALL Is something that has a great lesson in life
Summary: 5 Stars

REEVES' and LANE are a good couple--- On an off stage. The kids are great actors.

Movie Review: 4 Stars

Once more, a Keanu Reeves film lives up to its expectations. Meaning, I wasn't expecting much from this film. It flopped at the box office, and was released after Keanu Reeves hit the second highlight of his career: The Matrix. Instead, I found myself really liking this film. OK, so some of the kids were really hard to understand, but I was smiling most of the time.

Keanu Reeves plays a character very similar to the characters he played in Feeling Minnesota & The Last Time I Committed Suicide. Characters that I was never very keen on. They smoke, they drink, they get beaten up. Keanu Reeves is all of this in the film. He has no friends, except ones who are after him for money, he doesn't have a girlfriend, and he is very much portrayed as an alcholic chain-smoker. So why did I buy this film? Cos it was on sale. I seem to like buying rubbish films that are on sale.

But I liked this. I really did. The kids are cute and fun, and even though it was mainly a film about sport, it doesn't focus too much on the subject, and its about a sport I can actually understand!

The kids are great, despite the swearing and the fact that some of them don't look old enough to know what they're saying actually means. They seem to really connect with Keanu's character, and you can also see this in the behind the scenes in the extras.

There are a few underlying stories in this, which could have been brought more to the forefront, instead of letting dwell in the background. These include the love story between Keanu Reeves & Diane Lane, the kids families, the school ...

Three quarters of the way through this, I had tears streaming down my face. Surprisingly enough, Keanu does NOT die, despite what people think. But it is sad, and I won't spoil it for anyone, but I was crying. It's so sad and so sweet. And Keanu manages to shed tears!!! Not something he's really attempted before, or attempted successfully.

We also get a topless Keanu wandering around with just a towel round his waist (yum), showing off his very noticeable scar from the motorbike accident. And a tattoo?! I think this was on for the movie, as I've never known him to have a tattoo before, but why would the make up artists go to the bother of putting a tattoo on him just for one scene. I'll be curious to see if he did get a tattoo. It looks like a very cool design.

If you're a sport fan, you probably won't enjoy this. But bring a box of tissues if you do go and see it.

Movie Review: Beauty out of ugliness.
Summary: 4 Stars

A moving story and very well played by all concerned. The ugliness and depravity of the context pictured in this movie serve to show that, no matter what the odds are, the beauty of the human soul can emerge in spite of everything. Just two reservations. First, I found the dialect hard to follow: even when I turned on the very helpful subtitles, the meaning often escaped me. Secondly, the enormous change for the better that Conor O'Neil experiences by having to take charge of his young players happens somewhat too quickly. In spite of this, however, the process itself is quite credible and so, given the time constraints of a two-hour movie, you don't need too much good will to suspend disbelief and accept a few psychological corners being cut rather short. - All in all, I find the idealism exemplified in this movie extremely comforting.

Movie Review: A Very Touching Film!
Summary: 4 Stars

"Hardball" really surprised me when I first watched it. I've been a fan of Keanu Reeves for a long time, so I figured I would enjoy just about anything he is in. This movie is no exception. This film revolves around a man (Reeves) who takes on the duties of coaching an inner-city little league baseball team. He is a gambler and almost loses it all because he can't quite break his habit. However, it is through spending time with the members of his team that his life truly turns around for the good.

There are many funny moments in the film, but there are some sad moments that will have you reaching for the Kleenex box. I would highly recommend this film to anyone who wants to watch a film with a very touching story!
