Movie Reviews of Happy AccidentsMovie Review: Great sleeper film Summary: 5 Stars
I just saw this movie last night and was pleasantly surprised.
As a fan of both Vincent D'Onofrio and Marisa Tomey, I thought it might be a good film , but it was much more than that . The chemistry between the characters is magic and the casting is flawless ,although I never would have thought of these two as a perfect pairing .
Always a sucker for time travel , this piqued my interest . As the two meet and quickly fall for each other, there is a sense of deja vu between them. D'Onofrio's character is quirky yet loveable and the question is raised if he has a mental illness or seizures or is actually, absurdly, a time traveler as he eventually claims to be !
I liked "Somewhere in Time" and "Forever Young" , both good time travel movies, but this one offered more - the characters were more fleshed out and their obvious caring for one another comes through despite all that is against them .
There are several twists and turns in the plot and I was happy with the ending - it is a movie that will stay in my memory for a long time and that is the test of a good movie - there are so many that are fairly entertaining and then you pick up the same video 6 months later because you have forgotten that you ever watched it ! That will not be the case with this movie - it will leave an impression .
Movie Review: I accidentally and quite happily stumbled onto this movie... Summary: 5 Stars
And I absolutely loved it! Call it a happy coincidence if you will, but while I was making the morning coffee and waiting for my boyfriend to come home from his martial arts class, I saw that Happy Accidents was coming on cable, IFC I think but can't recall. I'd been intrigued by it thanks to some wonderful reviews right here on Amazon that I looked into after Amazon recommended this movie to me based on others I'd been looking into. This is a wonderfully charming movie and if you like romantic comedies, you'll be sucked into this one right away. Marissa Tomei is terrific and very heartfelt. At the beginning before she's met Sam, there's a particular scene that cracked me up that touched on her former boyfriends, perhaps because I could really relate. I don't know if the guys will totally love it, but my boyfriend, who tends to stay far away from movies like this, came home when the movie had about 30-45 minutes left in it, and he seemed to enjoy the portions of it he caught. But for all of us women, I'm one of the least mushy, sentimental people you'll ever meet, and I just loved Happy Accidents. Please make it an intentional viewing on your part...you will not be disappointed!
Movie Review: Fun and holds your attention Summary: 5 Stars
It was a happy accident that I saw this movie. It is like all the time travel clichés wrapped up in one. However they picked just the right actors for the parts. You of course recognize Marisa Tomei from the movie "Oscar" (1991); however it may take you a second to recognize Vincent D'Onofrio as the bug in the Edgar suit in the movie "Men in Black" (1997). There is never a dull moment following all the twists and turns.
Sam and Ruby run cross paths and immediately know they have met before. She says déjà vu; he says time travel. And as they get to know each other he comes clean about being from the year 2472 and she figures out where he is really from. Checking out the pictures in his wallet really help tie the movie together and is a nice added touch to most "K-Pax" type "are you or aren't you" movies.
However do not let this fact or physics get in the way of a story that is in truth about people.
So sit back kibitz a little and enjoy

Movie Review: Imaginative & Engaging Summary: 5 Stars
"Happy Accidents" is remarkable in the way that it ingeniously blends science-fiction & romantic comedy into a deeply moving and enjoyably believable story. The acting is superb, as well as the dialogue and storytelling. You are kept totally engaged and entertained throughout the entire film, eventhough its length reaches close to two hours; I found that by the end, I had barely touched the beverage next to me. There are many unraveling twists and mysteries, and the ending is great in its surprise and confirmation of what was building up during the movie. But, the ending is not so unexpected that a second viewing of the movie would be spoiled or uninteresting, as was the case for me with "Sixth Sense." The first thing I said after the conclusion of "Happy Accidents" was, "WOW. That was one great ...movie!" My wife and I both agree to owning this movie because it is so well done and thought out, and we could easily watch it over and over, as we do with "12 Monkeys" and "Contact." I highly recommend "Happy Accidents" as a great imaginative and engaging romantic comedy/science-fiction movie.
Movie Review: Funny and touching Summary: 5 Stars
I'm not a Maria Tomei fan. But here's a film that not only makes her look truly lovely, it gives her an opportunity to shine. It also has Tovah Feldshuh (who in the past has regularly played a deeply annoying attorney on Law & Order) giving a fine, controlled performance as Tomei's mother. The movie, of course, is D'Onofrio's. His character is just so unpredictable (light years beyond his over-the-top, yet immensely watchable geekiness on L & O Criminal Intent) in every way, that without any evident effort he makes the movie entirely his own. Is he a time-traveler, or is he just charmingly nuts? There are hilarious moments, warm and touching moments, confusing moments--all leading to a hugely gratifying conclusion. The editing is tight as a tick, the performances are all spot-on, and New York actually looks like a place where you might want to live (as long as you don't mind relaxing in a state of danger). Catch this one! Highly recommended.
