Movie Reviews of Hansel & Gretel

Movie Review: A Family Favorite!
Summary: 5 Stars

We ran across this delightful rendition of Hansel and Gretel at our local library and are anxious to purchase one of our own, as we keep borrowing it every other week. My children adore this version, the evil lady in the forest being defeated by these plucky children being a favorite part. The acting is great...what a great find! If you get a chance to see this film with your family, you won't be disappointed. The thing I liked about it most as a parent is there was no "evil step-mother" trying to get rid of the children, but merely a mother at her wits end and facing starvation who gets angry and sends her children off to the woods to gather berries and realizes her mistake once she calms down, but finds it is too late as they are already lost. I never liked that aspect of the story...the mother plotting to be rid of her children so that she could have more food for herself and her husband. That never sat well with me as a child. This is a must see...

Movie Review: Best Cannon Movie Tale.
Summary: 5 Stars

"Hansel And Gretel" is the best 'movie tale' Cannon Films produced. This version of the story is taken from the Hunperdinck opera, but its's still a recognizable rendition. The cast is fine, Hugh Pollard as Hansel, Nicola Stapleton as Gretel, David Warner and Emily Richard as the parents. But the REAL treat here is Cloris Leachman, as Grizelda, the Witch. This veteran actress is simply terrific, whether coaxing the children inside her gingerbread house, or threatening them with death. She also sings well, something she has rarely done in films. The production is tasteful, as are the new songs, adapted from the opera. A bit tense at times for young kids, "Hansel And Gretel" is nevertheless, a classic! [phillindholm]

Movie Review: It was an incredible musical of Hansel and Gretel
Summary: 5 Stars

This was to perfection. They did the story very well. In some parts of the story it was very light while other parts were very serious. It was beautifully done. The music was original and well done. The acting was really good. Not a whole lot of dancing but that is O.K. The special effects was supreb.

I highly recommend this movie for fairy tale lovers, musical lovers, and individuals who like the story of Hansel and Gretel.

Movie Review: cute version
Summary: 5 Stars

I really enjoyed this version. I like this because this version has the mother caring about the kids where in the origional story the mother was cold and cruel. Cloris Leachman was classic as the witch. pretty good special effects. I cheered when gretal was able to get the magic stick and zap the witch into gingerbread and break the spell that was over the missing kids of the forest. You'll enjoy this movie if you like fairytales

Movie Review: Hansel and Gretel
Summary: 5 Stars

It was great to see that they have the Cannon Tales on DVD now! My daughter and I used to watch it together when she was an adolescent and now she is going to be a mother herself. I purchased this so that my grandchildren will be able to view the movies that their mother watched when she was little. Cloris Leachman steals the show in this one!
