Movie Reviews of Halloweentown/ Halloweentown II - Kalabar's RevengeMovie Review: A Real Halloween Treat Summary: 5 Stars
These two (and the third) Halloweentown movies are really, surprisingly great. At first when they had first announced the original Halloweentown, I thought it would be a lame, cheap movie but I was shocked when I saw it, the special effects, visuals and acting were all excellent, the acting was superb and was very believable, the charectors are well thought out and you really feel like your with them wherever they go whether its in there home or in HalloweenTown. Not only are the visuals, Special Effects, and Acting excellent, but the premise is also very original as well and doesn't feel like a carbon copy of something else. The HalloweenTown movies are one of my favorite Halloween movies of all time. It just gets me into the holiday that will be coming up and I get so excited, it brings me into the spirit! You need to buy these on DVD or at least give it a watch because you will not be dissapointed. This goes for all three though I will say that the third film wasn't as great as the first two, but it was still great and enjoyable and will leave you with a smile on your face. Buy these on DVD and enjoy them every October.
The first one has Marny (Kimberly J. Brown), a normal, or so we thought, 13 year old girl who is shunned off from the Halloween holiday from her mom claiming she has reasons for this. But Marny just loves Halloween, like someone in the movie says, Halloween was like made for her. Her younger sister also enjoys the Holiday but isn't in the 'know' of how fun it can be because her mom has done a good job of making sure they don't celebrate it at all (which means no trick or treating, no decorations), the only one in the family who sides with there mom is Marny's brother who is a bit of a goody, smart too-shoes. But when Marnys grandmother comes for a visit, things unfold and soon Marny and her siblings discover that they all have magic, Marny's and her sister are Witches and there young brother is a Warlock, the mom is also a witch but wanted her and her kids to be normal which is why she always shunned out Halloween all together, when Marny sneaks onto a "ordinary" bus that her grandma gets on when she leaves there house with her brother (and soon you find out that there younger sister snuck on without them knowing), they are brought to Halloweentown where there grandma lives, its a peaceful, extremely cheerful place full of candy, costumes, bright colors, interesting stores/shops that sell broomsticks ext. But the main interesting aspect...is that monsters live there, not mean, ugly monsters, some are ugly but some are beautiful and human like, they all have nice or mean personalitys and act perfectly normal. Soon after spending a little bit of time there, they discover that the towns people are turning mean and grumpy, evil almost and then dissapearing the next day. Soon they are thrown into a mystery which gets even more complicated when Marnys mother discovers that they have snuck off. It's a real great film to watch and its all excellent and believable, with some great funny humore present.
The second film returns all the same charectors from the first with some new ones, good and bad, the plot is somewhat similar to the first but is very different as well, this time, theres a new person trying to turn humans into monsters at midnight of Halloween, Marny and her grandmother get trapped in Halloweentown where all the residents are turning gloomy and the town is turning gray along with them (literally), soon everyone has to band together to stop the new villain and save Halloweentown as well as the human world. It's also great and very original, it's just as fresh, great for the eye and as funny too, the visual effects are just as good or maybe a bit better and the acting is equally as good. It's great and matches up with the first.
So buy these movies (and get the third as well, it'll be worth it) and have a Happy Halloween which is almost here!
