Movie Reviews of Halloween

Movie Review: The suspenseful classic everyone loves (or has seen).
Summary: 5 Stars

1974's Texas Chainsaw Massacre redefined horror, but 1978's Halloween was a bit more tame and was therefore more easily accessible, winning over a broader range of fans. Halloween is more about suspense than bloody violence. It contains many murders, but they are shown very briefly and are not very graphic. The movie begins with a flashback to Halloween 1963, where a young boy named Michael Myers brutally stabs his older sister to death for no apparent reason and is then sent to a facility for the criminally insane. 15 years later, Myers escapes and returns to the small town where the murder took place so that he can relive his crime, which is what many serial killers do. He chooses a small group of teenagers as victims, in particular a young woman played by Jamie Lee Curtis, whom he begins stalking obsessively. Michael Myers is a cold-blooded killer who never says a word. He just chases his victims with a large knife, always walking and never running. He wears a distinctive white mask that he never removes and is simply evil. He needs no motive to kill someone; he just does it. Throughout the movie his therapist, Dr. Loomis, tries to capture him but is ultimately unsuccessful, allowing for a sequel. This first film in the series, however, is the only one I really love. All the sequels feature Michael Myers killing people, even though he has always just been killed at the end of the previous movie. In many of these sequels, he is seemingly invincible, even though he is a mortal human. But this first Halloween movie is a horror classic. Special features include a documentary called Halloween Unmasked 2000, two photo galleries, cast and crew filmographies, and theatrical trailers. This DVD is essential to any horror movie collection and I highly recommend it, especially if you've only seen Rob Zombie's remake. Enjoy.

Movie Review: The remake ain't got Jack(o-lantern) on the original!
Summary: 5 Stars

Well first off, if you were able to get past the cheesy pun I used in my title, thank you! John Carpenter's "Halloween" is one the all-time horror movie classics, and one of the very first slasher films in horror movie history. Whether or not it was THE first slasher film, a title that's up for grabs between this movie, the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (1974) and the original "Black Christmas" (1976), and even "Blood Feast" (1963), it's a debatable topic.

However, whether or not "Halloween" is the absolute first slasher, it's still one of the very best. Why? Simply put, "Halloween" is a movie where everything is done right. There's plenty of character development throughout the movie, the suspense builds as the movie progresses, and unlike in some other horror films, everything that should have an explanation is given (shown in the first scene with Michael Myers as a child, etc.) Another thing I like about this movie is that the whole film is a steady incline towards the end, which is quite the slasher climax! Also, while it's able to build up progressively and draw you in more and more, it's still able to perfect the slasher formula of killing off more and more people throughout the entire course of the film.

As I stated before, "Halloween" is a slasher film where everything was done right, unlike certain remakes. In addition, the DVD comes with plenty of extras and you even get to choose between a widescreen and fullscreen format. Overall, this is a great version of the DVD with one of the utmost best horror films ever done. I'm sure most horror fans have seen this movie, but if not, it's very highly recommended. Buy it in time for Halloween, kick back, and let that theme music remind you what a joyous, scary time it is! Thanks for the time, and peace.

Movie Review: One of the best
Summary: 5 Stars

For those of you who may not have seen this movie yet or maybe just dont own it well let me tell you it is one of if not the best horror films of all time and obviously a classic. What I like about this movie is the story it was a very good story but dosent have to much that it hinders the hack and slashness that you expect in horror films. Films like Friday the 13th for instense altho I loved the first Friday the 13th it had some faults in that you really didnt understand what was going on until the end when jasons mom randomly showed up(very good ending though) and like alot of horror films the acting can pretty much for lack of a better word suck Halloween however has it all a good story some good(but not to over the top)kills and GOOD ACTORS which is nice to see. For those of you who enjoyed Rob Zombies version of the first film you have to see the original I love Rob and I loved his version but Carpenter is just a genius who cant be beat. This movie is a much own for horror fans in fact if you are a horror fan you should already own it but if you dont BUY IT. WATCH IT. LOVE IT. and also check out the rest of the series I personaly own the entire series(minus Halloween 3 cause honestly what was that was it even a Halloween Film)altho some people would say the plot gets lame after the first one I would disagree maybe after the 5th but there still even H20 and Reserection where a fun watch and Rob Zombies are not at all shabby ether in fact id go as far as to say Rob Zombies Halloween is the second best in the series next to the original first movie. But hey im rambeling but take it from me a true Halloween fan who even owns the so called crappy ones Halloween is amazing atleast give the first two a shot if you have yet to

Movie Review: Halloween (1978)
Summary: 5 Stars

Halloween. This is one of those horror films, started on a very low budget, now is one of the biggest movie and film phenomenas ever. Having been remade, 7 sequels, thats pretty popular.

But now, lets get into this story.

The movie begins years back when Michael Myers was a kid, dressed up as a clown for Halloween. He violently murdered his sister, and has been screwed in the head ever since. His doctor, Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) is on to him after he gets out of the institution. The main movie focuses around Laurie Strode (Jaime L. Curtis) who has to babysit a young boy named Tommy. Michael Myers tracks her down, and the night of Halloween really begins, changing the aspect of the holiay for most horror fans.

This movie, as low budget as it is, does not show awhole lot of gore, but thats the golden part, the suspence, mystery, and imagination on how he can kill these people.

I'm sure most people know that the actual mask for Michael Myers was a Shatner mask, spray-painted white. The mask works perfectly for the character of Michael Myers, because he has no face, blank face, no personality, just a violent soul if you will. The theme song is a big part of pop culture now, that piano/synth. If you hear that song you will instantly think of Halloween or Michael Myers. So the original Halloween is a giant recommendation for anyone who has not seen it yet, its way better than the new Rob Zombie version, which in my opinion sucked.

Movie Review: Beware of the Divimax version, this is far better.
Summary: 5 Stars

Sure, Anchor Bay releases the same contents in different releases, but so does every other distributor. The 1999 release was all sold out at Anchor bay, as well as at the major retailers. Distributors print different covers so they can differentiate between different printings of each title.

As far as the contents of this release goes, it's a as faithful of a presentation you can get for this film. This is the best print available on DVD. The Divimax version, on the other hand, sucks. When they made the Divimax version John Carpenter didn't supervise, so it's not a Carpenter endorsed version. They totally screwed up the colors, and the team who put the Divimax version together totally subdued all the colors Carpenter used in the filming of Halloween. Watching a Carpenter movie without interesting lighting is ridiculous. So people shouldn't be out there recommending the Divimax version. This version is for purists and for people who want to watch the film the way it was intended to be watched, not some contemporary, watered down re-imagining of a horror genius' masterpiece.
