Movie Reviews of Halloween IIMovie Review: Great Scary Sequel That Continues From 1 Highly Recommended Summary: 5 Stars
This is a very scary sequel and it was filmed in 1980. Rick Rosenthal did a great job in directing this film to make it as scary as 1. It starts off where the last 5 minutes of Halloween ended with the music "Mr. Sandman Give Me A Treat" and Laurie telling the 2 kids to get help after Michael attempts to kill her. The scary music is also back. The cops soon discover 3 bodies in a house and take Dr. Loomis seriously that Michael Myers has returned to Haddonfield to kill. The whole movie takes place in the hospital where anything can happen and it does.
Laurie Strode ends up in the hospital after being wounded by Michael and befriends a paramedic named Jimmy who tries to help her. Laurie starts having vivid dreams of when she was a young girl and young Michael is in it too. These scenes are pretty creepy and Laurie soon starts to figure out why Michael wants to kill her. Donald Pleasance is back again and will do anything to stop Michael and save Laurie. Michael eventually overhears someone on the radio talking about the murders and where they took Laurie.
The hospital scenary is pretty spooky since it was filmed all at night. You see Michael walking up and down the dark corriders through the camera. This is interesting because you do not know which area he is in and then it jumps to a scene with a hospital staff in a similar area and we do not if Michael is near by or not. Halloween 2 is more gorier and has a higher body count. There is off course the usual sex scene between a paramedic and a nurse with nudity included. There is definately more blood involved in each of the murders than in Halloween 1.
We also learn in this one how Michael is related to Laurie by a school scene and where Dr. Loomis is told by Michael's nurse that they sealed up certain papers so no one would know anything about Laurie Strode and her relationship to Michael. Dr. Loomis of course figures this out. Laurie still badly injured leaves her bed to try to leave the hospital. Laurie is chased through the hospital by Michael and barly escapes him at certain scenes. The ending is great is great. I highly recommend this sequel for die hard Halloween fans as I am myself. Its pretty scary and still has the dark scary atmosphere that Halloween 1 had.

Movie Review: Michael Myers is home to stay! Summary: 5 Stars
Picking up exactly where the original left off "Halloween 2" is able to deliver just as much horror movie entertainment as the original "Halloween". Everything about this movie makes it a classic; reinforcing the character development of the first movie while developing the new characters shown here, the plot, the series of events, and the acting, which I forgot to mention in my review of the original "Halloween". Probably most memorable are the talents of both Donald Pleasance as Dr. Sam Loomis, who is probably the best horror-movie hero I've seen and shows Donald's acting skills, and Jamie Lee Curtis as her role of Laurie, who returns as the scream queen.
Comparatively, this movie is more graphic than the original "Halloween", which virtually didn't show a drop of blood, and DEFINITELY didn't show a dude in a creepy Halloween mask getting smashed between two trucks before a fiery explosion occurred. (Which is one of my favorite moments in the movie!) So yes, "Halloween 2" is a bit more graphic than the original "Halloween", and is just as scary and suspenseful.
What I did notice about this movie is the chilling, dream-like atmosphere. I know most slashers have a somewhat earthy element, but there's something about the dark, deserted hallways of the hospital late at night on Halloween that sets an intense and dream-like atmosphere, which seriously fascinated me with the movie, especially considering I didn't pick up on that the last time I saw it. So this movie is able to be scary, graphic and atmospheric all at the same time.
Overall, while stylistically it's somewhat different from the original "Halloween", "Halloween 2" is just as good a movie, if not better. For fans of slasher films or horror films in general, especially those who want a movie with a chilling, dream-like atmosphere, "Halloween 2" will be a scream! Pick it up in time for Halloween night, too, so you can enter the dark realm of terror known as the scariest night of the year. Thanks for the time, and peace.
Movie Review: The Only Good Sequel To The Classic Original Summary: 5 Stars
After the original "Halloween" film turned into the "little independent film that could" and ultimately set the standard for horror films for nearly two decades, John Carpenter and crew got back together in 1981 to churn out a sequel. Though the entire Halloween franchise is now mocked for the absurdity of its installments, this is the only one that manages to maintain some of the magic of the original.
For a basic plot summary, "Halloween II" picks right up where the first one left off. Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is being taken to the local hospital, while Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasance) is still trying to hunt down the psychopathic (and seemingly indestructible) Michael Myers. When Myers finds out where Strode is being held, it sets up a final confrontation between the three.
What I really have to give the "Halloween II" writers credit for is the foresight to realize that their shtick could only go so far. They managed to created a taut, highly-suspenseful sequel to one of the most original films of all-time, and chose to "end" (if only they would have known...) the series while it was still going strong.
This movie succeeds because it is basically just an extension of the first. Michael is still terrifying, the jump-scenes still cause your heart to uproot, and the drama is still palpable. Does it completely capture the mojo of the 1978 edition? Not quite; but it comes closer than most horror flick "part two's". There is a bit more gore and a little less innocence in this installment, but overall it is a very fitting continuation of the overall storyline.
Thus, watch this film with confidence knowing that you won't be let down (this time...I can't say the same for the rest of the sequels). If you're having that Halloween movie marathon on October 31st, make sure this one goes right into the DVD player after the original.
Movie Review: One of the greatest sequels ever made. Summary: 5 Stars
This is quite simply one of the greatest sequels ever made. I have rarely ever seen one capture the tone, cinematography, and feel of the original quite so well. It blends seamlessly with the first fim, taking place on the same night with the same cast. Also, it avoids the trappings of most slasher sequels which just raised the body count, gore, and sex. This film was also the introduction of the story, which was lacking in the first film. Where halloween was an often pointless rampage of murder, relying on aesthetics, mood, and suspense, this film gives Laurie's character more relevance and Michael's character more depth and intimidation. These aren't silly arbitrary murders anymore. The continuity between the two is flawless and it makes for a truly great sequel.
People who tell you it doesn't come close to the original obviously haven't seen the original. You'll often read reviews of this film that describe the characters as poorly developed, poorly acted tools that simply exist for Michael to kill. Well first of all, you're watching a slasher movie. Second of all, Dr. Loomis, the sheriff, Laurie, and Michael aside, that description fits every character in the first Halloween as well. And the four characters I just mentioned return in part II with the same writers and actors. How are Laurie's friends in Halloween portrayed or written any better than the hospital workers in Halloween II? They aren't (Totally!). They were just as vacuous, useless, cliche, and uninspired. People who bash Halloween II usually forget that Halloween had the same exact flaws. I love both films.
I was pleasantly suprised to find that Halloween II was just as artistic, well crafted, and impacting as its predecessor. Any fan of Halloween should be sure not to miss this amazing film.
