Movie Reviews of Halloween [Blu-ray]Movie Review: A classic horror film on a very good BD release Summary: 4 Stars
Halloween never looked better than on this Blu-ray. Except for some softness in the picture in certain scenes where the background or some caracters look out of focus, the image is so sharp and detailed that is hard to believe this is a 1978 movie. And personally I don't care about the change in the color timing that caused a lot of debate on the internet forums. Sound is just ok, considering the source and the extras, while slim compared to other editions, are solid, like the commentary track and the featurette. I just wish the TV version was available through seamless branching. Anyway, I give this BD an overal score of 8/10.
Movie Review: Brilliant Blu-ray Transfer!!! Summary: 4 Stars
I grew up with this film in its various incarnations on home video. And, yes, i probably own it in practically every format. But this version really packs a punch. It is really spectacular to see the crisp images from such a gritty film. You would never know this movie is now 30 years old by the Blu-ray transfer. The only element that was somewhat disappointing is that I noticed the audio dropping out occasionally, probably due to imperfections from the original mono source. Otherwise, you will find new details in this film that you never noticed before on this great hi-def version!!!
Movie Review: Never looked better Summary: 4 Stars
This Blu Ray is an a very good transfer taking into consideration the source and age of the film itself. Fans of Halloween shouldn't hesitate to pick this up as this is clearly how Carpenter would have intended the movie to look...and that's not a bad thing here.
Movie Review: Weak and Bland Summary: 2 Stars
This isn't the first time I have seen Halloween, but I figured I would check out the Blu Ray, since I haven't seen the movie in atleast 10 years. Upon watching, after the initial kill, of his sister, Michael Myers waits about 30 to 40 minutes in the movie before he kills anyone else. It is pretty much just him watching through windows, popping out behind bushes, etc.
The movie lacks the gore that other films in that same time error had. Movies such as Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre trump this ten times over. The kill scenes were VERY VERY VERY weak. The Special FX are horrible, and please don't jump on my case and say, it was a late 70's movie. They could have done much better! Compare the death scenes in this movie to other death scenes, from movies in the late 70's and early 80's and you will see that this movie lacks!
The movie is considered a classic by most, but to me...It's a pile of crap. If you disagree, then i'll be getting rid of my copy here on amazon.
Movie Review: Purely based on picture quality Summary: 2 Stars
Ya know, they splash across the screen right away about "Presenting them in 1080 high definition!!!". Well, not a few minutes into the film and i have to face what we once called in 3D gaming "THE JAGGIES".
Yeah, it is an "OK" transfer - BUT if you did not notice that ALL the cars in the drive ways had jagged edges running up and down them especially on the chrome, then you are totally blind.
I do not know much about older movies with their ability to transfer well to high def, nor do i own any previous Halloween DVD's to compare quality. I do know that this is the first Blu-ray i have had this terrible problem with and i can say that a DIVIMAX version may not actually be any worse.
My judgement may be harsh, but i went Blu-ray to escape those jagged edges; so to see them pop-up so early in the film just makes me glad it was only $12 when i bought it.
