Movie Reviews of Halloween [Blu-ray]Movie Review: One of the best horror movies of all time has never looked better! Summary: 5 Stars
I have seen many horror films through the years and I must say that arguably "Halloween" is one of the greatest of the genre.
The slasher movie trend that the film helped start in the late 70s and 80s has hurt its reputation but for whoever does not think this move deserves it's prestige (being included in the National Film Registry and critical acclaim for over three decades) should pick it up and experience a horror masterpiece.
I received the Blu-Ray version in the mail from amazon.com on Thursday after ordering this past Sunday (great delivery servive, amazon!) and I must say the picture quality is far superior than the '99 release or the 25th Annivery Divimax edition.
To conclude this review, I highly recommend this film on Blu-Ray to see the movie in its finest home video presentation and witness, "The Night He Came Home."
Movie Review: Will this have the correct color timing...?!?!?! Summary: 5 Stars
The 1999 DVD release by Anchor Bay, (now Starz) had a Dean Cundey (cinematographer) supervised tranfer.
Halloween was shot in the summer in California where it hardly looks like fall in the midwest. Cundey had the film (and the 1999 DVD) color timed to look more "fall like" and to have creepy VERY blue light in the night scenes. The Divimax release from a few years back had a much sharper picture BUT the incorrect color timing. Suddenly, "Halloween" looked like summer in Cali. instead of fall in the midwest and much of the creepy blue light in the nightscenes was gone. MUCH less effective.
Question now, will this new BD have the correct color timing or will it just be the HD transfer they did for the Divimax DVD...?
Movie Review: Halloween. What else can be said?. Summary: 5 Stars
I think HALLOWEEN has been around so long that nothing new can be said about it. It is a classic and shall forever be. I was a senior in high school when it came out. It has forever changed the Halloween season for me. I cannot imagine Halloween without HALLOWEEN. I think it has a lot more meaning for us "older" kids. Just like DAWN OF THE DEAD, FRIDAY THE 13th, CARRIE, and my personal favorite, THE SHINING. they were all pioneer movies. The music and the mood of these films will never be matched, copied, yes. I highly recommend all five of these movies. There are alot of other decent horror movies out also, but if I want to "go back in time", I just pop in one of these and let the memories & goosebumps start.
Movie Review: The horror film about the nature of fear Summary: 5 Stars
This Blu-ray release is the best middle ground between the Cundey version and the Divimax 25th Anniversary Edition. John Carpenter always in his movies tries to convey some type rudimentary philosophic incite and occasionally reveals much illumination of guarded esoteric issues. Halloween presents us with the archetype of fear and the consequences of human nature when faced with that fright (the shape). Fear is a powerful weapon for the skilled and detriment to those who react inappropriately, thus is fears nature it is "the mind killer".
