Movie Reviews of Halloween [Blu-ray]

Movie Review: John Carpenter's Slasher Masterpiece
Summary: 5 Stars

Thirty years later and Halloween still remains incredibly relevant. It's still intense, and it's still a classic. Few horror movies can withstand the test of time as well as John Carpenter's Masterpiece. The reason it still works today? Simple...the story is steeped in realism and it's a situation that everybody can relate to. It boils down to that primal fear that a psycho really might be lurking in the shadows...waiting to hack you to bits.

Though several people die, Halloween doesn't really rely on gore to spook audiences. Rather it features brilliant photography that deftly places "The Shape" in the background of several scenes (usually accompanied by some disconcerting synth sound effect). It helps create this palpable tension that makes you weary a crazed maniac is creeping around every dark corner. The atmosphere benefits heavily from Carpenter's pulse pounding iconic score. You really feel as though you're part of the chase scenes and it's easy to find yourself sitting on the edge of your seat.

Halloween is THE archetypal slasher movie as it practically laid the foundation of the genre for years to come. I suggest picking this one up on Blu Ray since it's arguably the best version available. No horror movie collection is complete without this one.

Final Grade: A+

Movie Review: "HALLOWEEN" THE NIGHT HE CAME HOME! BLU-RAY & TERRIFYING!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Halloween [Blu-ray]HALLOWEEN 1978 THE ORIGINAL, THE ONE & ONLY STILL SCARY AFTER MORE THAN 30 YEARS!! Here's the movie that made Ms. JAMIE LEE CURTIS A STAR. Coincidence or fate? JUST PURE ACTING TALENT INHERITED FROM HER PARENTS (HER FATHER THE LATE Mr. TONY CURTIS). Not since the original PSYCHO starring Ms. JANET LEIGH, Ms. Curtis' mother in real life, had a film offered jolts of terror & send chills down the viewer's spine with a story that makes you care for all the characters onscreen. VISCIOUS MICHAEL MYERS PILES ON THE BODY COUNT AS NO OTHER KILLER HAS DONE IN FILM HISTORY SINCE NORMAN BATES!! And the masterful direction, screenplay & NOW A CLASSIC MOVIE SOUNDTRACK THEME also written by Mr. JOHN CARPENTER, only compares to the craft of Mr. ALFRED HITCHCOCK!!! Suspense, terror & unexpected story twists are in store rather than blood & guts as some people think. NOW ON BLU-RAY HIGH DEF & SOUND, ACCEPT NO IMITATIONS OR RE-MAKES- FRIENDS & I HAVE MADE IT A TRADITION TO WATCH IT EVERY YEAR IN OCTOBER - "IT'S HALLOWEEN, EVERYBODY IS ENTITLED TO ONE GOOD SCARE"!!! TREAT YOURSELF TO A GEM OF A MOVIE!!!

Movie Review: The original & the best 9/10
Summary: 5 Stars

I feel nobody needs to hear about the plot cause everybody has had to see Halloween directed by John Carpenter he & Deborah Hill just tell a great story that unfolds amazing. It Stars Donald Plesance as Doctor Sam Loomis he'd be in part 2, 4, 5 & 6 I feel he just had the right attitude for the role. Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode a teenaged character I cared about not a emo cry baby like Sçøût TåÿLør Comptøn she'd also be in part 2, H20 & HR unfortunately. Nick Castle plays Michael Myers. I like it cause there is no explanation of why? You don't need it that's what sequels are for. I like the simple things of Loomis talking about Michael Myers that he was his patient for 15 years & he needs to be stopped. Unlike how Rob Zombie humanized Michael with the white trash family & making Michael a tragic character. I like it how it's done here & he will wait for the right time & Carpenter's score is great & Alan Howarth would take over in 2-6 he'd do a good job too. Of course in Halloween II we'd find out that Laurie is Michael's sister & it's a great sequel but this is probably the best of any of the Halloween movies.

Movie Review: Blu-Ray transfer looks great to me.
Summary: 5 Stars

Just my opinion here, but the night scenes still have plenty of blue in them -- and I do not think that this edition warrants a 1 1/2 out of 5 stars for video quality as some sites would have you believe. I am familiar with the Criterion laserdisc of this film (one of the best sets in its day) and there are certainly some differences...but honestly, like a lot of other people I always kind of felt like the night scenes had a tendency to look too "gelled" and either Cundey overdid the atmospherics a bit back in 1978 or folks started to get a little too nostalgic over at the THX mastering suites. I have a feeling it was a bit of both as the original widescreen video release of this classic was heralded as a total revelation of it's inherent style and I can see them pulling out all the stops to emphasize the visuals.

These day scenes do look a tad more green, and I would have preferred them to have more of the original autumn tint. But, any gripe about this is almost totally nullified by the gorgeous resolution the Blu-ray offers that is the best gift Cundey's cinematography could ever hope for.

Movie Review: The best of the best, bar none.

The shape, the scream queen, the atmosphere.....it's all here.
The single greatest horror movie of all time, period.
The big three slasher movies?
Halloween
Friday the 13th part 2.
And the original Nightmare on Elm Street.
These three are the masterpieces of the genre.
Halloween?
My favorite holiday and my favorite horror movie.
This movie has inspired and horrified sooooooo many people, and still does after all these years.
A masterpiece in every way, the simple but effective story line, the music, the acting, everything about this movie is timeless and classic.
A must have, a must see.
I can't give this movie any more praise than I already have.
If you haven't seen this, and I have a hard time believing anyone hasn't.
