Movie Reviews of Gummo

Movie Review: Gummo portrays todays disaster
Summary: 5 Stars

Gummo is a delicately produced movie that appears to have no plot. Many, after seeing it, have no idea what the message is but after the disasters in New Orleans, Mobile, and Buloxi, most people could understand the story.

The story is simple, "life can be horrible after a disaster." The screenwriter was trying to portray that and did. This movie appears weird and is not for children but all of the stories contained within the one story tell everything that people are feeling right now. I have recommended this movie to many people involved in counseling and social work to demostrate that there are some things that just cant be explained.

Movie Review: My All Time Favorite Film
Summary: 5 Stars

Harmony Korine definately blows John Waters's shocking and disgusting films away. Harmony Korine makes this film the way the real world actually is. Most people find this film repulsive and freaky to watch, but they don't understand that there is hundreds of places in the world just like this. Everything in this movie is poetic and dumbfounding. Just the little things are amazing such as the memorable bunny boy and the guy talking about where we'd be without wood. Any of you people who can't comprehend this movie have a microscopic world view and need to re-watch this mindblowing film. Trust me, this is an original.

Movie Review: REALITY AT ITS SCARIEST, BUT MOST HONEST
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie isn't one you sit down with the family to watch for entertainment while eating popcorn. It doens't have a plot - it's not supposed to! Reality doesn't have a plot. This film shows what kids and adults do in their spare time in a small town while there's nothing else to do. It's scary at times and definetely depressing. The cinematography is amazing - all the still shots and the flashes of little horrific scenes are great. Some people say it's stupid and boring and plotless and so on and so on, but those are the people who are afraid to admit that what they just saw is reality. And it's depressing.

Movie Review: very real, very tragic, very "funny"
Summary: 5 Stars

If you are a fan of the bizarre then this movie is definetely worthy of a viewing.
Many have passed this movie off as pointless, but to do so would be to do the same to it's "stars". A HUGE portion of this film was shot in the real houses that are in the film, very few were dressed down to look the way they were, they just went through a real community and rolled the tape. Many scenes were purely random improvs, or locals showing off for the camera, but that only adds to it's authenticity.
You could call this film f***ed up, but then so is the rest of america, and this film is a piece of it.

Movie Review: great visual cinema
Summary: 5 Stars

Movies are primarily a visual experience. Hitchcock said that no important information in a movie should be given by dialogue; information should be given to the audience visually.

If you like directors who are primarily "visual" directors, such as Parajanov, Tarchovsky, Antonioni, Fellini, et al, then you may very well love this movie.

I love this movie. It contains one of my favorite scenes of all time: the long bicycle ride with the heavy metal music in the background. Awesome.

A beautiful movie about the beauty of life. Really. The narrator even says so.
