Movie Reviews of GummoMovie Review: Gimme Gummo! Summary: 5 Stars
An amazing film that shakes up all we think we know about film making, script writing, and casting. I find myself telling people about various scenes from the movie. I never do that! I will never forget the junkyard scene with the two young boys berating rabbit boy. I want to sit down and transcribe that dialogue and study it! It could never have been written much less taught to child actors. Amazing. And the bathtub scene! Spaghetti and chocolate bar in muddy water. Wonderful. The white shirted chocolate bar salesboys... "tease the girls, just tease 'em." If you want to see a slice of Americana that is really out there in many senses of the word, see Gummo. See it once, pass it around, then watch it again. A real treat.
Movie Review: Misunderstood masterpiece. Summary: 5 Stars
I'm getting to be an "old fart". I'm 43. I have seen way more than my share of movies. I own scores of films. But I have never, ever, seen anything like GUMMO.This movie is not for everyone. This movie is not an artistic "statement". This movie is a (ta-da!!) movie. Don't let all the cynics scare you away. That all being said, let me wholeheartedly recommend GUMMO. I do suggest that you don't watch it alone. You definitely need someone in the room with you because you will not believe what you are seeing. There is nothing overly graphic or sick in this film. But there are disturbing scenes. And don't let anyone tell you that towns/people like this don't exist. They do. Rent it, buy it or steal it. But please watch it.
Movie Review: Harmony Summary: 5 Stars
If you can stomach it, get this movie. From the maker of Kids and tons of other crazy stuff, see what the boys of BELLY (Hype Williams) were watching on tv after Hype's opening rob scene.
This film seemed well put together. The events were humorous and realistic. What I love about Harmony's work is that it makes you think, it forces a physical reaction and a dialogue after being smacked in the butt or the face, or th... he's always very direct in that way.
Inde film makers Must Watch. Notice use of low-budget film work and sound. Looks good and edits uniquely Korine. Notice casting and anywhere-usa locations. The power of disturbing scenes add depth to film, such as Horror, and is uniquely Korine.
Movie Review: Disturbingly brilliant Summary: 5 Stars
I first learned of this movie from the movie Belly when it appeared on the big screen in DMX's characters house. Two kids no older than 7 or 8 are dressed in cowboy outfits in a junk yard and were cussing out this other young boy dressed with rabbit ears on. I didn't know that it was a real movie at this point. Until another one of my friends introduced me to it. Gummo is definatly a work art. It protrays a small town in Xenia Ohio that got hit by a tornado. And since my introduction to this movie I have inturn introduced many people to it. Most have mixed reactions. If you are looking for something out of the ordinary then this movie if for you. If you have a week stomach and/or a cat lover you may want to skip it.
Movie Review: Not for people who are scared of reality. Summary: 5 Stars
Just like I said. If you are easily shocked and appauled by real life people then this movie is definately not for you. Also if you are one of those viewers who needs a definate plot, a beginning & ending and or someone or thing to relate to, just to get into a film then this is not for you. While this is a rather disturbing film, it is also a very important one. A couple of fat thumbs up to brilliant movie makers like Harmony Korine who go against the grain of "normal" and "accepted" films. This movie was shot with a very documentary type of feel. You actually can't even tell who is acting and who isn't. Either watch this movie with an open mind or sing along with Leonard Maltin.
