Movie Reviews of Gummo

Movie Review: This is an important movie
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw this movie when it came out in 1997. It was one of my favorite films. It was visually stunning. It was arty. It abandon plot. It was sort a peek into white trash culture. I just watched it again as a DVD after six years have passed, and I have noticed a few things. One is that it looks a lot better on the screen than on a little TV screen. It seems sort of contrived in parts, where all the voice overs. All the narrations get annoying after a while. Most of the film is beautifully shot and is character driven. All the talk about depression doesn't really add anything. The performance of Linda Manz seems a little odd. It is more like Werner Hertzog's performance in Julien Donkey Boy. Both performances seem off kilter. Watching this movie, years later, it seems still good, but it has lost its impact. Julien Donkey Boy may be the better film of Harmony Korine.

Movie Review: Spanker Had Gravy On His Tie.......
Summary: 5 Stars

As strange as this may sound "Gummo" will always hold a special place in my heart. Why? Well, this is the one of the first movies that my then girlfriend, now wife watched together. Ahhh memories....Anyway, "Gummo" has it all: kids sniffing glue, kids mutilating cats, a couple of drunk guys wrestling a chair, a "gay" black midget, a brother who pimps out his retarded sister and an albino girl with no toes looking for a "sensitive man". If all the aforementioned activites seem like they would be interesting to watch then this is the movie for you. I can almost guarantee that at least one time during the film you will ask yourself, "Are these people really acting?" And the answer is...well I'll leave that up to you John or Jane Q. Viewer. If really weird movies are your thing give this DVD a spin and see what you think.
P.S. The soundtrack is awesome.

Movie Review: Crawling in my skin...
Summary: 5 Stars

This has got to be one of the most dysfunctionally and disturbingly beautiful movies I've ever seen. Just looking at all the retards and mongoloids had me and my girlfriend in tears laughing!

There are so many priceless moments like the Bunny Boy playing the accordion on the toilet, Bunny Boy being shot down by the Expletive Cowboys, the candy-bar in the bathtub, and the real-to-life fight between the brothers in the kitchen.

I recommend this movie to everyone but if you try to hate on it you'll get your fingernails slapped off. Midgets, down syndrome prostitutes, cross-dressing teens, cat slaughtering, brawling, and tap dancing. What more could you possibly ask for from a movie? Just look at the ugly kid on the cover of the DVD and you'll already know how screwed up this piece is. Buy this piece, you'll be missing out otherwise.

Movie Review: Engaging, yet, not engaging....
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie is a depraved piece of filth. The movie GUMMO is a depressing, mockery of life in the neither regions of america. It, is an uncomfortably, surreal, disjointed, trashy mess of a picture. The actors in thes movie portray ignorant dirty misfits, so disfunctional, you'll vomit all over your genitalia.A pletora of has beens, never was's and mommies little darlin's. It's not so offensive, as it is obscenly comical, and lowbrow. Plotless and pointless, it is a seeming waste of time, making no sense whatsoever, and lacking in any redeeming qualities, whatso ever.

That being said, I loved this movie, and after repeated viewings, have not grown tired of it. It's like watching STEEL MAGNOLIAS at the zoo, with down syndrome children, on angel dust.

I give it five stars.

Movie Review: "Life's beautiful, without it you'd be dead"
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie was the best movie I have ever seen by far. Take heed you must be either extremely twisted or artistic to truly enjoy this film. First of all there isn't really a plot, which is beautiful in a world where every main-stream movie is predictable. It's rather a collection of events, different people lives meshing together connected only by the fact that they live in the same town. The cinematography is amazing, and Harmony Korine is genius. Every scene in the movie has meaning, whether you think so or not, it's placed perfectly for the biggest possible impact it could have. You have to be open-minded when watching this film, and see the world from a different perspective, dare to see the ugly which in this case is actually quite beautiful indeed.
