Movie Reviews of Greyfriars Bobby

Movie Review: A timeless classic suitable for children and adults with a heart
Summary: 5 Stars

Having been to Edinburgh and seen the statue of Bobby, this film had some meaning for me. Film makers - including Disney - just don't make films like this anymore, probably because society has changed so much since this was filmed in 1960.

There is no violence, no swearing, the dog is real, and there is no animation - it's a sweet film that'll gently tug on your heart strings. It's innocence is so very touching and it's a classic example of the type of films my parents grew up watching and that I can now appreciate.

If you're a dog lover then it'll warm your heart, and if you want to show your children a sweet film that will show them a bit of history, won't frighten them, or teach them bad habits then Greyfriar's Bobby is just the ticket.

Movie Review: The most heartwarming dog story movie ever!
Summary: 5 Stars

I loved this movie as a child, revisiting it as an adult it still flooded all my emotions! Great character actors, tender story its got everything, joy, sorrow, hope and happiness. This movie will make you happy and sad at same time. Anytime I need a 'good cry' I watch this, it warms my heart and makes me feel good but you earn it! I did see his statue in Scotland, where he is still famous as he should be!! Cant beat 'classic Disney' like Darby O'Gill and Old Yeller! Love it, they remade it.... I am not interested in seeing that, it's probably good, but would never compare.. some movies should never be remade, this would be one. A gem in it's own right!!

Movie Review: among disney's best animal films
Summary: 5 Stars

Originally released in 1961, Greyfriars Bobby is a very tender and beautifull film. It really is right up there with old yeller, and other disney classics. Set in Scotland, the sets are lavish, the production values strong. Performances by Donald Crisp and Laurence Naismith are involving. I saw it recently for the first time in 30 years, since it was broadcast on the disneyland tv show many years ago. I was as equally captivated by it as I was when I was a boy. It isnt overly sentimental as some may think, but it is quite touching. A real classic.

Movie Review: Excellent Family Film!
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie is so sweet, charming & heart-centered, exactly like the old-Disney(from when Walt Disney was alive). The whole family can watch this. There are no swear words or bratty/rude main characters, no excessive violence, no indecent exposure. This film is just like the old Disney. Walt Disney would be proud of it. I mailed a copy to my dad and he loved it!

Movie Review: The Whole family will love it!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was reminded of this wonderful story on a recent trip to Edinburgh, Scotland where the story of Greyfriar's Bobby originated. I remembered seeing this movie as a child and ordered it to share with my grandchildren. They loved it as much as I did and now we have another wonderful memory to share.
