Movie Reviews of Gremlins 2 - The New BatchMovie Review: Gremlins 2 Summary: 5 Stars
"Gremlins 2" is a hyperactive sequel to the 1984 Gremlins film, featuring a lot more types of Gremlins and Mogwai, as well as a few guest stars (like John Astin and Hulk Hogan).
Billy Peltzer and his girlfriend Kate have moved to New York, and are struggling a bit to get by. They'd like to get married, but they need a little more money before they can settle down properly. They both work in the Clamp building, run by Daniel Clamp (Smallville's John Glover). It's full of new gadgets and inventions, but half of them stuff up. Up in the higher floors, a genetic scientist (Christopher Lee) is toying round with DNA mixtures, and his assistants have caught Gizmo the Mogwai to experiment on. They found him on the streets, as the old man who ran the store he lived in died, the building knocked down for a Clamp Chinatown development. Billy finds out, and rescues Gizmo, and would take him home, but a janitor accidentally sprays Gizmo with water, and he multiplies, creating more Mogwai. Chaos soon covers the building, getting worse when the fully mature Gremlins discover the genetic laboratory...
It's light hearted, and a pretty intense sort of film. So much going on, so many ideas, so many characters, and its good that way. There's a bit of satire too with the Clamp corporation. Worth a look for fans of the first film.
Movie Review: Gremlins 2 Summary: 5 Stars
What a great follow up! GREMLINS 2 drops most of the Horror elements entirely in place of a full fledged Horror Comedy where the Gremlins are brought back to life in a state-of-the-art high rise in downtown New York where Billy and Kate have begun working. The special FX work for both Gizmo and the variety of different Gremlins show a vast improvement in terms of their maneuverability and design, though I personally prefer the look of the originals. Rick Baker and company push the limits as usual, using a combination of incredible puppetry, animatronics, and even stop-motion animation. Clamp Towers serves as the perfect setting for the mischievous imps to get their claws dirty in while they tamper with the elevators, phones, and their own genetics in a conveniently planted laboratory upstairs. On top of a clever script, the film also offers a ton of excellent cameos including John Astin and the legendary Christopher Lee in small but brilliant roles. While many of the gags and character exchanges are downright goofy, they are never stupid and always funny. This is a sequel done right, expanding on the original story without repeating it, and introducing tons of great new characters alongside fan favorites.

Movie Review: Hillarious Sequal Gets The Real Deal DVD Treatment! Summary: 5 Stars
GREMLINS 2 is an overall underrated sequal that I feel is actually superior to the first. The two are very different films. The first one is a merging of horror, comedy, family film, and looney tune. Meanwhile, the sequal is just an all-out comedy, and in that perspective it succeeds brilliantly. There are more and more jokes to discover every single time you watch the film, and it therefore never loses its comic touch. I also much prefer Rick Baker's gremlin design than that of Chris Walas for the original. Anyone with a taste for gag-filled, non-stop hillarity will love this film. In the end, it even comes off as a spoof of itself! Brilliant!GREMLINS 2 isn't labeled "Special Edition" like the original was, but it is, in fact, a much better DVD in terms of both film presentation/quality and extras. The main thing that sticks out for me is the collection of deleted scenes and outtakes. They're almost as hillarious as the film itself! If you like GREMLINS, you'll most likely love GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH. And if you didn't the first one, you'll probably get a kick outta the sequal anyway!

Movie Review: THE GUYS ARE BACK IN TOWN Summary: 5 Stars
Watching this hilarious sequel to the original hit film is like watching a live action Looney Tunes. With its fast paced motion, the plethora of gremlins doing wild and crazy things, all the "in jokes" and reference to the original, this sequel is just as good if not a little better than its original.
Other than the insufferably cute little Mowgie, the other gremlins are horrific little demons who stop at nothing to wreak havoc in a luxurious high rise perpetrated by a Donald Trump tycoon (Mr. Clamp). The virginal heroes from the original are back and even the snow plow driver and his wife show up. It's all mindless, reckless fun and very entertaining. Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates are appropriately naive and mushy; John Glover is a hoot as the tycoon; Robert Picardo is fine as Glover's henchman, Robert Plosky looking like Grandpa Munster is funny and Dick Miller and Jackie Joseph (who appeared in the original 1961 LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS) are good as the snowplow driver and his wife.
Even almost 20 years later, these guys are hilarious.
