Movie Reviews of Gregory's GirlMovie Review: Outstanding coming-of-age movie Summary: 5 Stars
A fantastic movie. Very charming and romantic. Proves once and for all that you can make a great movie without sex, violence, or car chases. The story is timeless, and the emotions really hit home. I saw this way back in the 1980's and absolutely loved it then. Since then, I've been searching for it in the rental stores, but never finding it. Maybe I'll break down and buy the darn thing. Highly recommended for all age groups.
Movie Review: Gregory's Girl DVD Summary: 5 Stars
My husband & I are ex-patriate Scots living in Canada, and in our adolescence Bill Forsyth's "Gregory's Girl" came out and quickly became iconic in Scotland and one of our favourite films. We'd like to get the DVD in NTSC format but want the audio track to be in the original Scottish accents and with no scenes cut - I'm unable to determine which versions of the DVD are which - can anyone help ? Thanking you in anticipation.
Movie Review: A surprising and quirky comedy Summary: 5 Stars
This film is perfect for fans of Robert Altman's "O.C. and Stiggs" or the films of Savage Steve Holland ("Better Off Dead"). The music and the production values will remind you of an After-School Special, but the writing and filmmaking is light-years beyond those. Don't expect much in the way of plot, just a sunny and fun, light-hearted, slice-of-life, coming-of-age story.
Movie Review: Gregory's Girl Summary: 5 Stars
Bill Forsyth's delightful coming-of-age film rings consistently true, recreating those universal growing pains experienced by boys in their teens. Lovely Scotland setting (admittedly with some thick accents to decipher) and appealing juvenile performances make this a keeper. Forster is adorable as Gregory's wise, precocious sister. A subtle charmer.
Movie Review: Nostalgic Eighties Humor Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of the movies I would take to an isolated island.
Crazy, nostalgic in a funny way, and WHAT CHARECTERS!!! Use ONLY the Scottish language when you watch, have subtitles instead.
This is the kind of movie you can look at once a year :-)
