Movie Reviews of GorgeousMovie Review: another side of Mr. Chan Summary: 4 Stars
Judging from the title and the plot description I wasn't expecting this to be another Jackie Chan fight/stunt fest extravaganza. After all Jackie is pushing the age towards geezer-hood (but still in pretty good shape and fighting form). So you won't see any specatacular fight sequences or death-defying action scenes. What you do get though is the side of Jackie you don't normally see. As he does get older he is resorting to his charm and humor in pleasing his audience (see Shanghai Noon). And you know what .......it works. His romantic persona is on display here and coupled with an equally appealing co-star this movie will please most. Just not the action hungry fans who catch this for just that. Tony Leung is surprisingly good as the gay make up artist who takes in Bu. And Shu Qi portrays the love-struck, naive Bu with attractiveness and an appeal missing from Hollywood's leading asian actresses. For Chan fanatics this is a movie worth checking out to find that their star is indeed more multidimensional than his pugilistic repertoire he unleashes.
Movie Review: Jackie Chan does romantic comedy Summary: 4 Stars
4 of 5 stars for this romantic comedy movie. I am a huge fan of Jackie Chan. This movie is a bit different than his other movies; the focuses on the romantic and comedy elements and downplays the trade-mark Jackie Chan fights.
A village girl named "Bu" meets and falls in love with business executive CN Chan (Jackie Chan). The movie is about how Bu tries to capture CN's heart. Qi Shu played Bu and was wonderfully cute; how could you not fall in love with her! The dinner scene with Bu wearing a long blue dress was fun! Well, throw-in a mob-boss, some dumb henchmen and a few Jackie Chan fights and you have the movie. Specially entertaining was a fight scene with 4 silver aluminum baseball bats.
Filmed in Hong Kong and English dubbed audio. The voices were pretty good; though knowing Jackie's voice so well, it is hard to hear some other voice from his mouth. The dubbing isn't such a problem.
A truly fun, funny and entertaining movie.
Movie Review: Not your typical good vs. evil, action hero vs. villian Summary: 4 Stars
This movie has a lot of comedy, and to be honest in many ways different from your standard Jackie Chan flick, I liked his co-Star, I dont know her name but she has some sexy @$$ lips though. This has your crazy and amazing fight scenes that are so creative and only Jackie can pull em off. The last fight scene with "Adam" the fight scene is more of a gentlemens fight, they have respect for each other, and its a pretty long fight scene, well worth the wait, the guy who plays "Adam" is actually a student of Jackie chan, you might recongize him in the background in "Mr. Nice Guy" as a "thug". The so called "Villian" in this movie, is not a villian at all, Hes a childhood rival of jackies who of course is trying to out due jackie in everything. Hes actually pretty funny, this movie to me is a overall love first action second movie. Pretty good movie, I bought it cause Im trying to complete my Jackie Chan collection and Im glad I did.
Movie Review: Great movie but where are the stunts? Summary: 4 Stars
This is a great Chan movie. Kind of like Jackie's version of Pretty Woman. A billionaire (JC) meets a poor girl and at first he doesnt really like her but then she grows on him. Has some good humor and the few fight scenes that are in the movie are awesome. He faces a white guy (Forgot his name) that has some really fast kicks. He fights him twice and both fights are fun to watch. Other fight scenes are on a yacht and a fight in an alley against some gangster guys with baseball bats. I didnt know there were so many ways one person can beat the #&$% out of someone with baseball bats, but Chan found a bunch of them. Jackie doesnt use the environment around him so much like he usually does but he shows off some really great moves anyhow. I am definately getting this movie when it comes out on DVD.
Movie Review: A fun movie... Summary: 4 Stars
This was a good movie, and it is always enjoyable to see Jackie Chan branch out a bit and show his acting ability (though, this was not the best of his movies for that.) I have to say that, even though I have my own copy of this movie and have watched it and enjoyed it several times, I am never able to suspend my disbelief. I am always bothered by the disparity in the ages of Jackie Chan and his leading teenager! I will be glad when Jackie Chan stops playing 20-somethings and moves entirely into his true age group with roles that allow him to show off his acting range (which is actually quite impressive.) The man is a good actor, and he can sing! As he matures and his impressive martial arts and acrobatic abilities inevitably change, I would like to see him develop and share his other abilities.
