Movie Reviews of Gone Baby Gone

Movie Review: A for Affleck, B for Boston, C for Casey, D for ?
Summary: 5 Stars

One of the most difficult tasks is adapting a book to the stage of film. However, this gritty urban (and urbane) drama deserves every star. It truly is an ensemle cast of excellent actors (and actresses). When you can forget Morgan Freeman is Morgan Freeman, or that Ed Harris is Ed Harris--there is something magical going on. From the dirty kitchen sinks of the "neighborhood" where the narrator grew up, to the quarry tagged in every available space, this rings true and is in a class with "To Kill A Mockingbird"--in color. Every few minutes there is a plot twist, and you don't really know who is good or evil--and in the end, you still will be left wondering. A great film leaves you with more questions that answers, and I would put this film in that category--especially when they are moral issues.

No plot recap is needed here--judge for yourself. You will not be wasting your time.

Movie Review: Stunning
Summary: 5 Stars

I've started being very careful about how I rate things, and recently haven't given out very many 5-star ratings. However, Gone Baby Gone is deserves every star it can get.

Stunning acting (Casey Affleck impresses, and Ed Harris is fantastic). Outstanding direction (every shot feels precise and thought out, yet Ben Affleck lets the actors do their thing, and run with it). Gritty writing (the whole picture feels alive). Seriously, this movie's story is extremely heavy, and loaded with vulgar language, substance abuse, and questions of morality. But beyond all the tension and darkness, this movie is just superb filmmaking. If it had been directed by Eastwood or Scorcese this film would be all over every cover as the greatest thing since sliced bread. The fact that it is Ben Affleck's directorial debut just making it's exponentially more astounding.

Go see it.

Movie Review: Emotionally charged.
Summary: 5 Stars

A compelling story that may cause the viewer to ask 'what would I have done in the end?'. A selfish, rotten mother lies about events surrounding her missing daughter. At first the case appears drug related, since the situation for the child was in dire need of welfare intervention, but when the young girl's aunt brings in a P.I. familiar with the neighborhood and its bad guys, the case gets far more complicated. As the P.I. digs deeper he's soon faced with a complicated question of right and wrong, only the question of what's right is anything but simple. The real sad fact is there are parents out there that are like the mother character so superbly played in this movie, so it's not difficult to sympathize with a few well-meaning characters who thought they were doing the right thing. This one will make you think.

Movie Review: Storytelling at it's best
Summary: 5 Stars

The power is in the details. Director Ben Affleck takes an well paced, richly textured and unflinching look at the hapless of Boston. It is like visiting a foreign land, without the smug, albeit false, protection of malls and mini-vans.

The characters, mostly, are ugly. The sort that almost slither onto the screen. The sort you would not stand close to at the grocers. Even in this milieu there is one woman and a child that shine as worthwhile. Meanwhile the law enforcers do their job...and the law and the decency imposed is what keeps this social strate from slipping into the sewer.

The law enforcers do their job - except when they don't.

If it were not for one scene of haunting horror, this would be a great date movie. It is provocative and not a movie I will forget. That alone puts it in a very select caste.

Movie Review: Breathtaking...only word appropriate
Summary: 5 Stars

After watching this movie once and being shocked at how good the plot, direction, and affleck's little brother is, whom actually out-acts his older brother, this moive was nothing short of a masterpiece. Wonderful twists and turns that you usually don't see. Great accents, cinematography, sub-plots, and everything. This movie is near perfect. So a few days ago, I showed it to my girlfriend, best friend and his wife. I loved watching their facial expressions as the movie went on. I even got goosebumps from a scene the second time around as well that I won't tell you about because I dont want to spoil the movie for you=) anywho, check it out..def something to add to the collection.

Casey affleck should stay infront of camera, ben should continue directing, cuz this and the town are absolutely amazing films!
