Movie Reviews of Gone Baby GoneMovie Review: Keep your children well! Summary: 5 Stars
Instants after I left the hall of projection yesterday afternoon, came to my mind the famous Sixth commandment "You won't steal" of the celebrated Decalogue of Kieslowski, because what we have in this intriguing and superbly well elaborated movie is an ethic dilemma between what it must be done to preserve the integrity of child whose mother is far beyond of what we might label as an exceptional mother.
Amanda is the kidnapped girl that constitutes the dramatic nucleus of the first part of the film. But beware, nothing is like it seems in that nocturnal ambush. The web of conflicts and dark interests nestled will allow to elaborate an Arian's thread that will lead us to an unexpected finale.
There are several highlights in this brilliant movie; first at all, I have to remark the agile direction of Ben Affleck and fabulous edition work; the memorable performance of Ed Harris as the Machiavellian officer, who really embodies what many officers think in low voice about the punishment against the criminal who attempts to beat or abuse a child, although this ethic statement be blurred by another actions that you will see all along this outstanding movie that unexplainable reasons was overlooked by critics and members of the Jury the last year. Perhaps, the recent Award to "Mystic river" could have influenced in this decision, but the certain of the case is we are before a first order work that must be seen.
Recommended without hesitation.
Movie Review: Ben Affleck classic gritty tale i hope he makes more like this !! Summary: 5 Stars
gone baby gone...a true classic crime thriller...a story about a 4 year old girl missing and private eyes patrick and angie are on the case but nothing is what it seems...believe me when you take a journey into this world you will see drug dealers, addicts, pedophiles, dead child, i mean ben really put it out there for this gritty film to be a classic and he did it perfect. when i say dead child u will understand once u see the movie. the point is that this is a mortality tale and it asks some tough question...you will see this movie and be angry with social service for not helping children who are living messed up homes or you would be angry with the police for not protecting your child from pedophiles it really does make you think with this movie. i have to say that this is ben first gritty film and he gets an A for this movie. i thought that ed harris and morgan freeman were brilliant in their roles but i was very surprise at casey his younger brother who is very good in this role as patrick trying to find out the real truth behind the missing child case. this is a tough watch because of the material that is in the film but it is true classic crime thriller that is so worth the watch and a true disappointment at the oscars for not nominating this film for best picture. this is a must!!! have for your dvd collection and a brilliant work for ben!!
Movie Review: Heartbreakingly beautiful from the very first note... Summary: 5 Stars
The moment the first note of the theme song came up on the screen, the moment this film started, tears started to fill my eyes... I knew that the directorial debut by Ben Affleck, "Gone Baby Gone, was going to be a Great Film. All you had to do was LISTEN. All you have to do is HEAR. You will be transported from the land of the living to the land of innocence lost and long gone and the longing for what we knew long ago and far away... it's that place we all know and long to return to that doesn't have a name.
You don't even have to watch the screen, even though you wouldn't want to miss a frame... This gorgeous, touching, heartbreaking soundtrack by Harry Gregson-Williams follows every fast-paced twist and turn down the rushing river that takes us on this tale of "right and wrong."
The story is heartbreaking morality play, about the choices that we find that we must make, even when we don't want to take a side, and none of them seem right. The musical score by Harry Gregson-Williams perfectly sets the stage.
You could be a blind person and not have to watch a frame; just sit and listen and you would know the tale of love, longing and loss, and right and wrong and how we sometimes try to do our best. This is one of the best film and soundtrack I've heard and watched in a long, long time.

Movie Review: Gone Baby Gone Summary: 5 Stars
Private investigators Patrick Kenzie (Affleck) and Angie Gennaro (Monaghan) are approached by Lionel (Welliver) and Beatrice McCready (Madigan) to look for their niece, Amanda (O'Brien), who has gone missing. They fear the police won't be able to devote enough time towards the investigation and think Patrick and Angie would be a great help. Opposed to their help are the girl's mother, Helene (Ryan); the police chief Jack Doyle (Freeman); and the two cops working the case, Remy Bressant (Harris) and Nick Poole (Ashton). They quickly discover some overlooked clues that put them in harm's way as well as put them in the position of having to make some morally ambiguous decisions.
"Gone Baby Gone" is a mystery/thriller that is full of twists and turns. They can be figured out beforehand if one pays attention thanks to this well written and executed script. Solid performances all around compliment Ben Affleck's first outing in the director's chair. Like "Mystic River" before it (it was also based upon a novel by Dennis Lehane), the film doesn't offer any easy answers. It forced the audience to decide for themselves if the right thing is done by the characters. This is a solid, top-notch film, and a definite contender for Best Picture when the Oscars come around. I highly recommend this film.
Movie Review: Superb Stuff Summary: 5 Stars
This is a fine film, worthy of the book that preceded it. (If you don't know the Kenzie/Gennaro books that Dennis Lehane penned before he focused exclusively on standalones, discover them now. They're terrific.) Affleck's direction is excellent. The high points: the Dorchester feel, the use of local, non-professional, actors (and, hence, brilliant casting); the pitch-perfect accents; and last but certainly not least--Casey Affleck's award-level performance.
The plot exudes and sustains a great deal of tension, but it is in no way claustrophobic. The ending comes in stages. This gives the plot a different type of rhythm, as the layers are removed. Only one slight cavil--Bubba is the most memorable character in the Kenzie/Gennaro books--an invincible earth scorcher who, fortunately, likes Patrick and Angie. He plays Hawk to their Spenser or Joe Pike to their Elvis Cole. We should know more about him in the film, so we can place him in proper context. The actor who plays him should also be much larger in physical stature, much kinder/gentler with regard to Patrick and Angie and far more menacing with regard to the bad guys. This was a missed opportunity.
Let's hope this becomes a franchise.
