Movie Reviews of Golgo 13: The ProfessionalMovie Review: Classic anime done even better Summary: 5 Stars
This is an awesome movie!!! It's not for children -- there's sex, murder, and action from beginning to end -- but that's exactly why it stands above the usual fluffy, magical anime. This is a dark anime with a substantive story and great visuals. I first saw The Professional on VHS, and Urban Vision has done a great job upping the quality of the picture and remastering the sound. It's bright, sharp, and engaging. The interview with the producer is an interesting bonus feature. I would have loved to see more bonus features, but with a title of this age, I'm just thrilled the film looks and sounds as good as it does. After all, the film is what I bought the DVD for.
Movie Review: This is a good example of where Hollywood steals ideas!! Summary: 5 Stars
Golgo 13 is a timeless mature anime classic that pulls NO punches. Very stylish artwork and the main character makes James Bond like like a straight-up PUNK!
If you like classic anime this is a MUST HAVE.
Legendary.
Movie Review: Golgo 13 - The Blueprint for many movies Summary: 5 Stars
Its quite apparent to any movie buff, that when you watched this many HollyWood movies stole ideas from this anime. Some very funny, very 70's sex scenes in this flick, and lots of action.
Movie Review: Interesting for a non-anime fan like me Summary: 4 Stars
Just for the record, I'm not a huge anime fan. I'm not a manga fan either. Not that I am against either of these art genres, it's just that I never had the time or the money to dedicate to getting into them.
That being said, I've been fascinated by Golgo 13 since I played the original NES game and its sequal. To this day, my friends and I use, "I need a custom M-16, one with electric percussion and push button style" and "..." as an IM response as an inside joke.
Once a year or so, I consider getting some of the Golgo 13 books to see what it was like. I finally tried buying this movie. I've never read the books, just played the video games.
I liked this movie a lot. The weakest part was the opening credits, it looked like a bad 1980's heavy metal video combined with bad 1980's CGI. The music was also a bit cheesy. Outside of that, the artwork throughout the film was good looking and maintained aa unique style. Unlike the handful of anime films that I have seen (Akira, for example), the plot did not devolve or get super-confusing. Indeed, it was an extremely straight forwards plot. It did have a twist, but I guessed the twist fairly early on. Nevertheless, the film was still quite enjoyable. The action sequences were very well done and could be followed. The bad guys were all quite devious and did not sink to the levels of threadbare archetypes like you see in a lot of films. There were even a few scenes that I was disturbed by, which is fairly unusual and shows that the film really packed an impact that few films do.
Overall, I liked this film a lot. If you are a fan of Golgo 13, or looking to learn more about the character or the series, I recommend this film.

Movie Review: The Duke in anime Summary: 4 Stars
Well I too have not seen this dvd but I do have the VHS ed. This is one of the greatest anime films you will ever see, it encompasses all that anime was striving for in the beginning. Action, artistic and iconic characters, plus the best animation we had ever seen. The effect of Golgo is that similar far reaching effect that Star Wars and Indiana Jones had on their respective genres. While the Professional does have some dated colorization, it stands up well against anything that is out right now. Action, sex, intelligence, irony, that's what everyone wants in a good "action movie." You'll get plenty of it here. By now you know of the plot, Billioniare inheirtee is killed by Duke in the presence of his father. That's only the surface plot, far more is involved in making this a great movie. One of the things I like best about Golgo is that he never changes from this OG film to Queen BEE (which I disagree with everyone whom finds that anime distasteful, it was good not great(3 and half stars.)) But having said all of these things I have to give it 4 stars because of the length. While usually I enjoy long animes, this one should have been broken up into 2 parts. 90 min is a long while to wait to climax when you have figured out what's happenining. Very rarely can I sit and watch the whole thing, not because it's not interesting, but like someone else mentioned it does 'drag' in parts. This however does not take away from the film's appeal. The best anime film out there is NINJA SCROLL hands down, everything timed and done perfectly. I would put THE PROFESSIONAL at maybe number 2 or 3 on the all time list.
