Movie Reviews of Golden DoorMovie Review: A Sicilian-American Review Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of the few movies I've seen recorded in the Sicilian dialect that my grandparents spoke. It was a joy for me to see it and I immediately wished to purchase it. Despite some surrealistic scenes, the film accurately depicts the life that the immigrants experienced in rural Sicily and agrees with what my grandparents and relatives told of their life in Sicily. A few night scenes in the film are very dark and are difficult to see. The ordeal at Ellis Island seems a little too severe for what the average immigrant experienced but I guess is accurate if you were marked with an "X" as Fortunata was. Too bad the Statue of Liberty was not in view! I also enjoyed the extra features on the DVD which helped me better understand the film. I recommend it for all people interested in what immigrants (not only Italian) to the USA endured in both their native countries and during the voyage and arrival at Ellis Island.
Movie Review: A realistic and honest view of the immigrant experience Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this movie a few months ago at the Angelika Film center in New York City. I was mesmerized by the film. Being half Italian with my grandparents coming from Italy, this movie gave a very realistic and honest viewpoint of the immigrant experience. The people that came from Europe in the late 19th and early 20th century were a brave and courageous group of people looking for a better life. This film portrays vividly the journey, trials and troubles they went through. From traveling to the port, the voyage on the ship, and the hell they went through at Ellis Island. I highly recommend this movie. Recently, I got to meet my Italian relatives for the first time at a cousins reunion. I look forward to traveling back to Italy and meeting the entire family and learning more about the family history.

Movie Review: Golden Door - Great Movie Summary: 5 Stars
This movie was a great 'love adventure' and even with the need to read subtitles is was a special treat. As with most foreign films, it didn't follow a set boring plot - each scene had it's own intrigue. Wish there had been more time to learn about the characters and could even see this as a series for tv. It left you with so many questions about their past and what they would do, now that they had arrived at the Golden Door.
However, I must that even though I hope someone will buy the DVD of the Golden Door for me, I doubt if it will be purchased by my husband.
Movie Review: the golden door Summary: 5 Stars
An excellent story of early immigration of low income working people to the US, but would have been a similar experience of immigration to other developing countries, as in my parents' case Australia. It was well filmed, but I would have left out the 'swimming in milk' scenes. Top movie.
Movie Review: Excellent Film Summary: 5 Stars
The Golden Door is a really beautiful film. I truly think it's a must see for any person who is a descendant of Sicilian immigrants. The language is beautiful. The story will make you laugh at times and feel sadness at others.
