Movie Reviews of Godzilla vs. the Sea MonsterMovie Review: Hungry for shrimp........... Summary: 5 StarsThis movie was made in 1966. Not bad of a story. Godzilla don't destroy many buildings. But he does knock down afew planes. A couple of people trap on a island. Have to awake Godzilla who then fight with Ebirah the sea monster. Everyone do escape with the help of Mothra.
Movie Review: Godzilla Goofiness Summary: 2 StarsI love Godzilla movies, and this one is just pure retro fun. I'd rather have seen more of Godzilla than the drama about the human cast but that's a common lament I have with all Godzilla movies, actually.
Movie Review: Awesome movie! Summary: 5 StarsFun for the whole family! The kids love it! Easy menus, english dubbing available as well as original Japanese version! Worth the money for a classic movie lover!
Movie Review: Not Godzilla's best film, but good nonetheless Summary: 4 StarsThis appears to be the Japanese cut of the movie, based on the timing. And audio is available in either the original Japanese or "international" English dub. English subtitles can be turned on or off. Note, however, that the titles (not the subtitles, of course - but the titles or credits) at the beginning of the movie are in English, not Japanese. That may be a disappointment for ultra-purists, such as myself, but should I imagine be ok with most well-adjusted English-speaking people who encounter this release of the film. The original Japanese language opening titles/credits would have been nice though. (Tokyo Shock and Classic Media both use the original Japanese titles for their releases. It would have been nice if Sony had done as well.)
The movie has been very nicely remastered. The image quality and color is excellent.
As noted in other reviews, this is not the best entry in the Godzilla canon. However, it certainly isn't the worst either. If you like Godzilla movies, especially those set on tropical islands and featuring Mothra (and the Peanuts, of course), it's definitely worth chekcing out. And, presented as it is here, in widescreen w/ Japanese audio on, the film artistically and as a narrative story is more compelling than the pan-n-scan, dubbed version you may recall.
Monsters featured include, Godzilla, Ebirah (a giant shrimp - in Japanese, "ebi" = "shrimp"), Mothra, and a giant buzzard-like bird.
Movie Review: How can we beat them? Wake godzilla! Summary: 4 StarsI know what you're thinking. "But it's a LOBSTER!" and you're right, you are perfectly right and yes you can sit there smug in your urban apartment a thousand miles from the nearest lobster cage, but if you've ever pulled one of these babies out of a...(read more) paper bag in Muskadobit Harbour, then you know that a 280' edition with razor claws and a needlepoint end with precision skewering would be a formidable foe. it would. Hot butter and lemon will never be the same after Ebirah. But that's not what this movie is about.
Nor the exceptional troupe of jazz-dancing worshippers who spend three whole days trying to 'waken' their awesome god when in all probability said giant-moth god was probably waiting for the show to finish before heading out to do the decent god-thing. But that's not what its about either.
A rural boy has only the word of a clairavoyant, on faith alone he sets out to be scammed by city-slickers who he just takes on as crew in his god-given quest, and his lost brother is even worse, turning our human foibles into strengths that counter the real evil in our midst, sins simply forgiven because it is obvious we have more important fish to fry. THAT is what THIS movie is about. Yes there's a monster loose in the high seas, and surprise, surprise, it's not the lobster.
