Movie Reviews of Godzilla - Tokyo S.O.S.Movie Review: Another fine entry in the "Millenium" series Summary: 4 Stars
I've been a Godzilla fan for as long as I can remember. I even love the old series - its cheesiness was part of the fun of it. I thought the 80's/90's series was pretty good as well. But the new "Millenium" series is really fantastic. And "Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S." is another fine entry in the series.
"Tokyo S.O.S." is the only film in the "Millenium" series which is a sequel to another film in the "Millenium" series. "Tokyo S.O.S." occurs one year after "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla". Hiroshi Koizumi reprises his role from the original 1961 "Mothra" film as Dr. Shin'ichi Chujo. The doctor receives a visit from two tiny fairies, who tell him that Mechagodzilla must not be returned, or Mothra will be forced to wage war against Japan. The old man sets out to stop the use of Mechagodzilla - but his young son, who works on the Mecha G ground team, has different plans.
"Tokyo S.O.S." is probably the third best Godzilla film I've seen. It's well-made, never hokey, and it has a fine score (by Michiru Oshima). Godzilla fans should enjoy it. I did.
Movie Review: Godzilla Still King of All Monsters Summary: 4 Stars
Despite being a little slow in the middle, this Zilla outing is still fun. The big G does battle again with Mothra (in both Larva and Adult stages) and MechaGodzilla, the bionic cyborg made from the original (as in 1954) Godzilla's bones. Lots of technical mombo-jumbo, bur plausable. The battle scenes are great. Look for those "wonder twins" who are the guardian of Mothra, and of course their cool Mothra song. That's precious.
This is supposed to be the last in the "Millenium" series, but they are working on another Big G adventure. It is rumored to be the last one for 3-10 years. Lets hope not. I enjoy these adventures and would like to see them on the big screen. This is a definate plus to any collection!
Movie Review: Near Great Godzilla Summary: 4 Stars
This movie would have warrented 5 stars if it had not been for the poor characterizations and re-hashed script. The recent Godzilla movies are guilty of not thinking "out of the box" and seem to re-introduce the same themes film after film. Yet, in spite of these drawbacks Tokyo SOS is a good film with the best SFX to date. Godzilla fans will be satisfied, and new Godzilla viewers should watch "Godzilla against MechaGodzilla" before watching this one. I am eagerly awaiting "Godzilla Final Wars" the latest and last installment in the 50 year Godzilla saga.
Movie Review: Tokyo SOS Review Summary: 4 Stars
This was a good Godzilla film in that it used more realistic sets and showed a believable Godzilla. The film stars Mothra, MechaGodzilla, Godzilla, Deadcamoebas, and some Mothra Larvae. This particular flick exhibits some good morals as MechaGodzilla cannot bring himself to destroy his brother monster, Godzilla. MechaGodzilla became self-aware even though he was constructed as a robotic weapon. If you are a Godzillaphile, you will enjoy this film. It was the 5th in the Millenium series.
Movie Review: Second Best Millenuim G-Film Yet! Summary: 4 Stars
This film, part of the 50th Anniversary series, has the same specifications as "Godzilla: Final Wars". This time around a Japanese teaser is included, although it's from when the movie was still in production, so it's mostly made of "Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla", "Godzilla vs. Mothra", and some "GMK" and "Rebirth of Mothra" stock footage. But from Japan none the less. Although the Japanese audio track and behind the scenes are included, I still didn't find this DVD worth five stars.
