Movie Reviews of GodspellMovie Review: A ray of sunshine on a cloudy dismal time period Summary: 5 StarsWhat a controversy THIS movie caused back in the late 1960s! First, it was Elvis, then it was the Beatles, then Jesus Christ Superstar and Hair. Now, of all things, an upbeat musical with people dressed in weird costumes doing a play on the gospel of St. Matthew! How many members of the older generation must have angerly screamed "what is this country coming to?"
Well, if it meant that more people would be curious about Christianity than ever before, that I say the country moved in the right direction after all. This movie was and still is a blockbuster hit .. and it didn't lead kids down the path towards drugs and sex as so many feared.
What I liked most about it was its positive outlook and upbeatness. There was no warning of the pending apocolypse because the US had troops in Viet Nam. There was no attack on US companies for polluting the environment. There was only good music and a positive message which is something we needed very badly back then .... ... and now.
Movie Review: Godspell Summary: 4 StarsDefinately retro, but interesting. Stay's true to the Bible. Some of the music is great. Should be seen at least once by everyone!
Movie Review: Modern but still according to The Word, but need to see it. Summary: 5 StarsGodspell leqns very much to the mODERN, BUT, IF THE VIEWER IS AWARE, THERE ARE GOOD REFERRENCES TO tHE Book. I would expect the younger generation - 17 to 25 would still come away with the meaning, evident or deper. Would recommend it , especially, as it catches the thoughts and messages. Plue the theme musical piece is gteat. A good and wise purchase.
Movie Review: Day by Day Summary: 4 StarsA snippet of time. The film made in the 70' with a seventies version of 60's hippies. There are some great views of the twin towers.
As with many film adaptations of plays, I the effort to take advantage of the media the essence of the play can get lost. Sure the songs are there but the filler is just that. The play as seen in its many incarnations is inspiring and makes one want to read the gospel of St. Mathew. However this version takes great effort to get through. Also based on the book "The Feast of Fools: A Theological Essay on Festivity and Fantasy".
Still this is the only recording we have to remember a play a time and a message. And the song "Day by Day" pretty much expresses the reason for the play and the reason to be part of the larger play.
Movie Review: Very nice movie Summary: 5 StarsWe have the VHS version but wanted to upgrade to DVD. It was a good price and the message is still very valid. We like the new purchase.
