Movie Reviews of Go (Special Edition)

Movie Review: Great entertainment
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently caught a viewing of Go, at a independent theater in New York where director Doug Liman spoke after the showing. It seemed that he genuinely believed this was his best work (also did Swingers, and Mr and Mrs Smith), he seemed reminiscent of the time he was doing independent films. What killed this films chances when it came out(besides the state of film in the late 90's) I think was the top billing of Katie Holmes. A lot of people probably thought this film was your average teen drama, but it was hardly that. I was one of the youngest people at the screening (21), but everyone was laughing, and excited. Like a previous reviewer said, this is a young adult thriller. The film is an adrenaline rush, the plot is out of sequence (Pulp Fiction similarity), and its key plot points include: a drug deal gone wrong, rave party, crazy Vegas trip, and an undercover drug bust gone wrong. The characters are all great, acting is especially good (Polly and Olymphant were the best), and the story never ebbed. Every minute is worth it (it's only 90 minutes). A tribute to decadence, and recklessness all for our viewing pleasure.

Movie Review: do NOT pass "GO"
Summary: 5 Stars

Probably the most entertainingly fun movie you'll see all year.

And this isn't like PULP FICTION. It cuts back to show what's happening to all characters during the same period of time and how they all come together. Which, if you've seen PULP FICTION, isn't what that film did.

This is probably the best film along with ELECTION so far up through the summer of 1999 at least, that didn't get promoted right. They could have been huge blockbusters if they were promoted right, because they're that good.

GO along with ELECTION are probably the most entertaining movies you'll see this year. ELECTION is hilarious, while GO is more of a dark comedy.

The writing is excellent. I laughed like hell with the whole amway thing and how the cop came on like he was gay and was just trying to get them to buy amway. (:

The DVD Extras are cool too. They got 3 music videos, (all good except for the NO DOUBT video which is kinda weak), 14 deleted scenes, making-of-featurette, and a audio commentary with the director and editor.

Do NOT pass "GO" on DVD

Movie Review: Style on a disc
Summary: 5 Stars

'Go' very nearly has it all. It is the most successful blend I have ever seen of action and comedy, whisked along by a perfectly stylish soundtrack.

In a manner borrowed from Pulp Fiction, the film covers the same few days' events from three points of view. Each of these segments oozes style. The first, a drug deal gone hilariously wrong, sets a frenetic pace. The second, the ultimate night on the tiles, is my favourite and with drinking, gambling, lap-dancing, gunfights and a car chase to remember, that should't come as much of a surprise. The third sequence is truly bizarre, but also very funny, wrapping up the film in style.

The pace never lets up, leaving so little time to think that the comedy still surprises me every time I see it. 'Go' - An hilarious film with moments of pure genius.

The only thing lacking, it seems, is a plot in the 'classic' sense. Lucky, then, that it boasts a script, cast, direction and soundtrack so good you don't even notice. And that is what makes 'Go' a true triumph of filmmaking.

Movie Review: Stop saying this movie is a "Teen Pulp Fiction."
Summary: 5 Stars

Everyone says that "Go" is a copy of "Pulp Fiction." Yes, it is a film divided into three stories with a non-linear timeline. But if you think that Tarantino was the first to come up with those ideas, then you are sadly mistaken. Go to the independent film section of your local video store and rent Jim Jarmusch's 1989 film "Mystery Train" and tell me Tarantino didn't lift his storyline straight from it. As the characters in Liman's last film "Swingers" state, "Everyone steals from everyone." Liman then humorously illustrated that point by copying scenes from "Goodfellas" and "Reservoir Dogs" almost verbatim. There's nothing wrong with deriving inspiration from great directors. So ignore all this talk about "Go" being a Tarantino rip off and treat yourself to a film that is engaging, well-acted, thoroughly entertaining and arguably the best film of the year.

Movie Review: GO - And buy this DVD!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am always skeptical when I hear the phrase "Thenext..." when describing a movie. So, when I heard "Thenext 'Pulp Fiction'" to describe "Go," my first thoughts were "Yeah right." While aspects of the story are like PF, this movie is all its own. You will have to watch this movie over and over to appreciate everything that it has going for it. It is very funny, sometimes shocking, and, best of all, the movie ride of 1999. Better still, the DVD is great. You get a near perfection widescreen picture of the movie (along with the full frame version). And, this is a special edition -YEAH! The deleted scenes are the best part. The commentary is imformative and interesting. The videos include "Steal My Sunshine" from Len. Overall, this is one of the best DVD's of 1999. If you like GenX movies that are smart, funny, and interesting, I suggest you GO right now and buy or rent "Go"!
