Movie Reviews of Go Ask AliceMovie Review: Needs to be remade Summary: 2 Stars
I teach Go Ask Alice almost every year. Athough I show a few clips from this movie, I wish there was a better version that I could show in its entirety. The kids are always disappointed by how much the movie leaves out or gets wrong.
Movie Review: THE BOOK IS BETTER Summary: 2 Stars
I really was disappointed in the movie after reading the book. The book is much better. I guess it might have been different had I seen the movie before reading the book, but I really doubt it.
Movie Review: READ THE BOOK! Summary: 1 Stars
Ok; I've never even seen this movie but, from all that I've read about it... it's a cheap adaptation to the book. I hate made for tv movies anyway... they're about as lame as the Hallmark movies, or the Lifetime movies. I think the thing that pisses me is there are certain things that seem to be left out, like why is there no appearance of the main characters sister, Alex? If you only watched the movie, you're stupid. Get off the couch and actually put your eyes and your brain to work in a better way than having them glued to a TV. If you read the book and watched the movie, than you can decide for yourself what you find is best. If you only read the book than I hope you agree with me. When books get made into movies they usually suck, especially when they're made for TV movies.
And whoever said that the name of the book was taking from the song "White Rabbit" - you're stupid too! It plainly says in one of the front pages of the BOOK (which is why you should READ IT!) that the name was taking from the Alice in Wonderland book published in the 1960's. In the book, our subject even makes reference to it after she had tried LSD for the first time asking if maybe the author of Alice in Wonderland was on drugs, too. And if you think about it, in that book and even the animated movie, there are tons of references to drugs so it kinda makes sense!
Bottom line, read the book. Some might not believe that it was the diary of an actual girl and that some adult wrote it as a way to scare kids not to do drugs but I think that most of you that think that ARE adults. Maybe I'm more apt to believe that it's at least partially real because while I was reading it (as a teenager I might add), I felt as though I knew exactly what she was talking about. Feeling out of place, having no real friends, thinking you have to diet when you're already so skinny and even getting involved with people and things that you should've stayed clear from, like drugs and people that use them.
I would not recommend this movie to anyone, cause from what I can tell it does the book NO justice. Please read this book...
Movie Review: Go Ask WHO? Summary: 1 Stars
I first read the book four years ago, and instantly I looked upon Alice as my idol. The diary entries gave me hope. So, when I finally got to see the movie a year ago, I almost cried. I saw no connection between Alice, and this pathetic attempt of a movie. It totally violated everything that had happened to Alice and turned it into a "family" movie, made-for-tv. I don't recommend anybody waste their time watching the movie, but i do recommend they read a copy of the book. It will turn anyone's head around, and most probably you'll never forget the book. I'm 16 years old, and i know I'll never forget Alice.
Movie Review: Go Ask Alice for a Better Movie Summary: 1 Stars
This is a laughably bad made-for-TV movie from the early 1970's. The acting is REAL bad. Andy Griffith cannot help this and he's probably embarrassed to be linked to it. The movie takes its title from the Jefferson Airplane song "White Rabbit" and is sung by someone other than Grace Slick. The story is a well-meaning warning about the dangers of teenage drug abuse but it is a poorly done, almost incomprehensible story. I would guess "stoners" would find it hilarious. See "Requiem for a Dream" if you want a good story about the dangers of drug abuse.
