Movie Review: Gilmore Girls Ultimate Collection

This collection is a must-have for any fan of the ubber popular show, The Gilmore Girls. It is a great re-packaging job, a spacesaver if you will, with a "book" for each season with full length pictures of cast, some of which were not shown if each season was bought individually and a complete Gilmoreisms booklet. The carrying case itself has a magnetic feature that keeps the opening closed without effort. I appreciate how they place each disc within a "book" or season in an indented slot rather than just a sleeve opening as this detail cuts down on scratches. Also, each disc has a number decal so you don't have to wonder or squint if searching for where you had last left off on the viewing. This item is well worth the money if your seperate seasons are starting to malfunction due to constant viewing or if you are looking for that perfect gift for the Gilmore Girls fan in your life.Movie Review: Predictable but Good

The two main female characters are entertaining although the overall storyline is... well, yawn. The supporting characters are okay although tiring. The DVD quality is a little disappointing, especially on a big HD-LCD, and our Season 2 Disk 8 DVD did not work for some reason. The series is phenononal. I believe the best writing on TV so far in the new millenium. I bought this as a Gold Box. Started watching it..again...and it is still fresh, funny, and bright.
So the series is 5 plus stars for sure. But DVDs are another story. If you are going to shell out money, I think the 'contract' means you get extras. For a series with so much wit and conversation at its heart the lack of commentaries on espiodes is appaling and inexcusable. The Paladonios, director, and actors OWED it to people spending money to do commentaries. As far as I know they did not, although on some seasons there may be one or two.
Now to the case. I was prepared to hate it, but it is actually one of the best things about this set. Heavy vinyl much better constructed than what I believed. But the best part is the clever way of space-saving with the DVDs. They are all in very slim folders. This makes the overall size MUCH less than having 7 individual seasons. Veah the picture choices on the case could have been much better but you know, for the durability and size savings I can overlook that. The two books that are included are decent and fun.
So if you have not seen all the espidoes get this for sure. If you have? Well there are extras each season and taken together that is 7 years of extras. However the extras are skimpy and a real shame for everyone involved. Much like the Harry Potter DVDs which inexcuasbly also includes no commentaries kind of a slap in the face of fans.
If you wanted to get the series and do not have individual years go for it, real space saver with the box design.
