Movie Reviews of Gia (Unrated Edition)Movie Review: Stunning biopic about an amazing character, played by the brilliant Angelina Jolie Summary: 5 Stars
The story of 1980's supermodel Gia Carangi at first seems like dozens of other plots-the kid from the streets rises to fame and fortune, triumphs above all, rules the world, dabbles in drugs and life in the fast lane, and succumbs to the evils of drugs. This movie, however, is MADE by the acting of Angelina Jolie, who portrays the supermodel Gia. The movie opens with Jolie/Gia as a motorcycle punk in a working-class Philadephia family, and (seriously) the viewer wonders how she could ever be a model, with her punk-rock haircut and attitude. A beautiful transformation occurs as Gia starts to rule the NY modeling world. She is more magnificent than anyone else, that is, until drug ravage her body, her face, her composure, and her performance on shoots.
The movie centers on Gia's relationship with a female makeup artist. The two have a very brief affair, after which Gia obsesses over her lover until she manages to steal her away from her boyfriend. Their relationship is on and off again throughout Gia's rise, fall, comeback, and life in rehabilitation.
The world today is a different place than it was in the mid 1980's. Gia was diagnosed with "Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome," but she's never heard of that before. In fact, she is the first woman her doctor has diagnosed with AIDS (she was an IV drug user, but he didn't realize the significance of that at the time). When Gia is diagnosed, all she can ask is how she can get rid of it???, which will surely break the modern viewers' heart. In her last days, Gia is visited by orderlies in full spaceman gear, so that they avoid her disease.
Movie Review: GREAT MOVIE - UNRATED VERSION IS LONGER AND HAS EXTRA SCENES. Summary: 5 Stars
Gia is a true story about America's first supermodel in the 80's. She was a lesbian and the love story is a central and tragic part of the film. Unfortunately, Gia gets involved involved in the drug scene and starts taking cocain to survive the the daily pressures of being a supermodel and wanted by many, many modeling agencies. Eventually she starts using herion and starts injecting it and becomes addicted. Because of this, she is infected by the Aids virus, which people still know very little about in that time period. I think this was Angelina Jolie's best performance to date and she conveys the pathos and the helplessness and the desperation of this woman extremely well, you feel transfixed by her performance and it casts a spell upon you. Gia was always searching for love and not glamor, money or the limelight. Her family broke apart when whe was a girl growing up and her relationship with her mother was polite at best. She was starved for love and affection. Her story is tragic and Ms. Jolie makes you feel for this woman and her tragic life. It's easily one of the best films ever made and one of my favorite movies of all time. I highly recommend it. I would never label it as a gay/lesbian movie because it is worthy of so much more. Her sexuality is only an aspect of her character and is also treated as such. Gia has a very deep and torurted soul. Her story is unique and defies boundaries or stereptypes. I give it a 10 out of 10.
Movie Review: Suzanne Summary: 5 Stars
Really good movie about the life of Supermodel Gia. Angeline Jolie's performance was excellent and touching at times and brought Gia back to life in this emotional and sometimes sad story of Gia's life and tragic death. The movie touched me long after I was done watching the movie and made me feel really sad that someone so beautiful, could feel so unloved and alone. It made me think harshly towards the people involved in the fashion industry and made me feel that they at times are no bettter then the people who are involved in the buying and selling that takes place in underground of human trafficing.
Movie Review: Apex Summary: 5 Stars
As a movie fan who has seen thousands of them since 1954, I only need to say one thing about this movie. In it, Angelina Jolie gives the best performance I've ever seen by a woman on screen. I can't think of a better reason to watch a movie. The specific details of the movie end up being irrelevant. What will stay with you is the impressions left by Carangi, as brought to life, and death, by Jolie. That is why I return to this movie every year or so - to see an actress inhabit a role in ways that words cannot describe, and which has yet to be equalled in my experience.
Movie Review: Warning: This movie is Intense. Summary: 5 Stars
It's the type of movie that once you see it you can't unsee it, you know? It stays with you. Angelina Jolie was amazing, I absolutely fell in love with her. I felt so apart of what was happening, I felt that I knew Gia and I cared about what she did. I'm sorry, my review isn't as good and deep as everyone else's, all I can say is when the movie was over I felt like I lost a friend. Even now, days after seeing the movie, I feel like someone special was lost.
I recommend buying this movie. I'd give it more than 5 stars if possible.
