First off, if you aren't familiar with Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C., let me tell you that it is my absolute favorite anime. It's a great mix of action and political intrigue that takes place in a surprisingly believable future world. But if you're considering buying the boxed set, you probably already know about the show.
With that in mind, let me talk about the packaging for this box. If you bought the boxed set for the 1st season, you remember that it was just all 7 individual DVDs crammed into a flimsy cardboard box. The 2nd Gig set is similar, but with a much sturdier and more useful box. It's made of thick cardboard with cool graphics on the side, and the lid is magnetically attached. Inside are all 7 DVDs from this season, individually wrapped.
So there you have it. If you're considering buying this, GO FOR IT!

Ghost in the shell is a great series. The first movie was revolutionary, but the second movie was a letdown. The anime series stand alone complex, revived the series. I only gave it 4 stars. I had to delete one star because the 2nd gig shows japanese xenophobia and racism. About half the episode are anti-chinese or anti-american. Movie Review: Perfecting perfection. If you have not seen Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex I would strongly suggest you seek out my review on the complete first season(Ghost in the Shell SAC Complete Collection Box Set) of the series, as it will better introduce what Ghost in the Shell is. If you are familiar with this series, by all means continue!
This complete second season of Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex is truly wonderful media experience. The 2nd Gig, or second season of Stand Alone Complex follows an extrodinary first season. Those familiar with Ghost in the Shell know it for its' intellectually stimulating and often philisophical plot lines. This second season holds true to these ideals, and while it is not critcal to watch the first season, it is certainly recommended as it will assist the viewer's overal understanding of the series. Now, onto the 2nd Gig!
The 2nd Gig follows the previous season's format; as it follows a compelling main plot with some individual "stand alone" episodes scattered amongst the season. Offering a full 26 new episodes, the viewer will imediately notice the writing is once again fantastic. The characters are increasinly filled out during this season. The rich emotional development leads the 2nd Gig to surpass the already epic achievements of the first Season. Considering my high opinon of the first season, the success of this season is by no means a trivial feat.
Everything you loved about the first season is back, and simply improved. A few new characters are introduced, and each developed wonderfully. The plot is once again very entertaining, yet remains intellectual. There is no shortage of impressive action scenes, yet I'd hate to spoil anything for you with a written example. Every single episode is an absolute treat. If you enjoyed the first season, I dare say it, this one is even better.
The 2nd Gig also features an excellent sountrack composed by Yoko Kanno. Following the wonderful soundtrack of the first season, I was very pleased at Yoko Kanno's return for this season. The music is as well suited to the content as it is composed. A superb addition to the Ghost in the Shell experience.
If you enjoyed the first season, you will definitly enjoy this season as much, if not more. I had to get each DVD indvidually, at a much higher price. This set is an excellent purchase. Every minute you wait you're missing a truly magnificent experience. I hope you can enjoy this series soon!
