Movie Review: About the DVD... Widescreen or pan-and-scan?

This film is only available in full screen but you are not missing anything because the widescreen version is the same 4:3 picture cropped for 1.77:1. How do I know this? Because I actually invested a lot of money for a rare "widescreen" laserdisc of this film on eBay only to find out that the "widescreen" image was really a cropped version of the (original) 4:3 version. Disney's favourite aspect ratio is 1.66:1, which means that films are filmed in 4:3 and then hard matted down to 1.66:1 for theatrical release and then to 1.77:1 for DVD. It would have been nice to have the added resolution of an "enhanced for widescreen" 1.77:1 DVD since I own a widescreen TV, but at least now I know the film is full screen and NOT pan-and-scan. And this format shows a lot more Brendan Fraser, if you know what I mean...:-)Movie Review: 18-month-old got the joke

Okay, this is one of my little boy's favorite movies. Granted he hasn't seen very many in his short life, but I can't believe how he took to it! It's second only to a free Jack Stone video that we got from the Lego company. I just had to share that he laughs every time it gets to the part where Ursula meets Ape for the first time, and terrified, she asks George "What does it want?!" and Ape replies exasperatedly, "IT wants ITS physician's desk reference, if you don't mind" and picks up a heavy tome to read. My son laughs and laughs while saying "Book!" I personally enjoy this movie very much, and I would much rather watch this one over and over than something like Barney!Movie Review: George of Jungle hits the top on the fun scale!!

Sometimes you want a serious, thought-provoking movie, and sometimes you want some good old fashioned mindless humor. Well, when it comes to mindless humor, it's hard to beat George of the Jungle. Brendan Fraser does a surprisingly good job as George, bringing a bit of depth to the roll.
But, don't go into this movie expecting great cinematography. Like the 1960s cartoon that this movie is based on, it makes sure to never take itself seriously at any point. Right, this is a fun movie that is best watched with friends or children - preferably both!

Movie Review: Well done Disney!

George Of The Jungle is a fantastic family movie - from George Fighting Lions to Hilarious asides with the narrator. The narration is fantastic - a very funny element of the film. John Cleese does a great job as "Ape", a talking (guess what! ) Ape! There are lots of daring exciting moments, but as the narrator says at the beginning of the film "don't worry, nobaody dies in this movie; they just get very bad BOO BOO's!" Great movie to watch with your children, or on your own. In fact you could even watch this movie during a lads/girls night in! Oh yes watch out for that......
