Movie Reviews of Genghis Blues

Movie Review: Tuva and strange music
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the video because I am an admirer of Richard Feynman whose autobiographies have helpt me to navigate the turbid world of qunatum electrodynamics.
The video was a surprise as I knew nothinf abour Tuva and its dtrange noises. Eventually the performance of Paul Pena and the Tuvans became fascinating.

I strongly recomend this video to all viewers.

Movie Review: Everyone will love this documentary!
Summary: 5 Stars

A remarkable story, sensitively documented. Delightful and moving, you'll want to share this one with all your friends. The concert "extra" on the DVD alone is well worth the price of the DVD. This concert not only features traditional Tuvan throat singing, but also a remarkable synthesis of this ancient art with modern blues. Most enjoyable!

Movie Review: incredible
Summary: 5 Stars

This film is an excellent documentary. Comical, funny, sad, honest and more all in one film. A must see for anyone who likes independent film (or Throat singing!). Also the album is fantastic. For more info on Paul Pena (the focus of the film) go to [...]
He is.. an incredible fellow. The soundtrack to this movie is also a must have.

My husband and I have purchased this DVD and we have watched it 3 times. We just loved it. This DVD is a great gift for people who are open minded and who are interested in other cultures and customs. Our friends loved it. What a great story that connects us all so deeply. I highly recommend it.

Movie Review: Genghis Blues
Summary: 5 Stars

Fabulous documentary about a blind African American musician who learns the little-known language of Tuvan via short-wave radio, learns how to "throat sing" and travels with a band of zany ham radio operators to the remote region of Tuva, in Asia, to take part in a throat singing contest.
