Movie Review: Genesis Before "Face Value"

I have been aware of this footage for some time and am so glad it's finally been released. This is Post Gabriel Genesis at their best - tight, powerful, full of energy and humor. The audio on this disc is good, but the video suffers because of the old tube cameras used in the early 80's - they simply couldn't handle the colored theatrical lighting, resulting in some blurry images. But when the camera isn't over modulating, the images are crisp and clear. This is why most bands shot live shows in film, which to me made them all look 30 years old right out of the can. But blurry images and all, the performances and Phil's interaction with the crowd are just as I remembered them back in '80 - and this DVD is a fine document of a band on the verge of commercial hugeness (and, of course, becoming Phil's band).
