Movie Review: As Close As It Will Come
Summary: 5 Stars
This series is the closest that I have seen to the real thing!
As a Marine that's been there, I can tell you that because some of the actual members of 1st Recon helping out/acting in the series there is virtually no difference between the series and the real thing.
One thing to note is that some people have given this series a "1 star" for showing civilian deaths, the reactions to them, the vulgarity and the overall apathy to everything by the members of 1st Recon during the invasion. Ladies and Gentlemen, if you don't want the truth, please don't watch this, watch one of the many other series and movies that have gotten the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars completely incorrect and full of political views.
For a service member looking for a good laugh, or a civilian trying to immerse themselves into the life of a Recon Marine during OIF I this is the perfect thing for you.
Movie Review: I'm lovin' it

This is a great DVD for lovers of all things military, especially those interested in Recon Marines. In my opinion, Recon Marines are generally misunderstood or not as popular as other Elite Forces such as Rangers, Green Berets and Navy SEALs. This is NOT a documentary on the Iraq War. There are No political arguments and NO sides are taken, other than those of each individual Marine. What this is is the best account of what day to day life is for this Elite Battalion of Recon Marines during the opening days and weeks of the Iraq War.
This is a first hand account of what these men endured and experienced in Iraq. It is raw and real. It stays very true to the book of the same name (which I would also give 5 stars.) If you want to know what it felt like to invade Iraq, buy this DVD. Best 7 hours I've had in a long time.
Movie Review: War in all its gory glory
Summary: 5 Stars
Gritty, ugly and utterly compelling, Generation Kill stands apart from many war offerings by refusing to gild the lily or indulge in rank patriotism. Its characters are not immediately likeable but as you share their experience as the "tippety-tip of the spear" during the Iraq war, they grow on you.
There is no message in this series, no pro or anti stance on the invasion, just a warts and all insight into what the marines went through. Just how some of their commanding officers reacted to the series would be interesting to know - they were hardly portrayed in a good light.
Sound effects and cinematic tension were superb: at times it felt like you were there, making watching the series an exhausting undertaking.
This is a must-view for anyone interested in the most controversial US military adventure since Vietnam.
Movie Review: Why didn't I see this sooner?

Loved Band of Brothers. Wasn't such a fan of the Pacific. Generation Kill is pretty darn good. I'm not going to say it's better than Band of Brothers, because it's just not really the same thing. But if you didn't like the Pacific because there wasn't enough character development, or you thought it spent too much time doing hollywood sex scenes... you'll love Generation Kill.
It follows a group of young Recon Marines in the invasion of Iraq. You'll get to know and love several of these characters and you'll be forced to experience all of the B-S that they did. You'll laugh, you'll get pissed, you might even say w-t-f a couple times. It's a great series.
I was reading One Bullet Away when I bought this series on a whim. Turns out, it's the same story. They are great compliments to each other.

GOD BLESS THE CORPS!!
Brilliant HBO Series on the good/bad of danger-close combat .. ..
For those who say this series is 'sad' and/or horrific, it is to a small extent, but that is what warfare brings and the innocent will always die with the guilty .. .. It is unavoidable .. .. Yet, far more innocents die in peacetime - Think Darfur and North Korea .. ..
As for the characters portrayed in the series - Did you feel some were unsavory and/or a bit warped?? Well .. ..Have you ever been in a HS/College/Pro sports locker room? Enough said .. ..
In the end, it takes a SPECIAL person to place yourself in harm's way, and an even MORE SPECIAL person to join the Corps .. ..
