Movie Reviews of Generation KillMovie Review: Spot on look at infantry Marines at war. Summary: 5 Stars
As a retired infantry Marine I found the portrayals extremely accurate and consistent with infantry and comm Marines. I served from 1982 to 2006 in the infantry and have to say that I saw a lot of my men in all the characters from the miniseries. The only problem I had as a senior enlisted Marine was the portrayal of SgtMaj Sixta, being a 9999 myself I saw a bunch of wanna be hardasses in the SgtMaj billet but none as over the top as his character, had I personally I would have slapped some sense into him. I thought the language was spot on, I thought the grab ass was spot on, I also thought the conversations regarding ethnicity and backgrounds were spot on accurate and I had no problem with the realism expressed. Overall what I saw on the screen was a highly trained recon/infantry unit performing outside the box of their comfort zone and doing so superbly. I also thought the mix of real Marines and actors and the technical expertise expressed was exceptional. Well done and bravo zulu to all involved.

Movie Review: The most accurate depiction of Marines I have ever seen!!! Summary: 5 Stars
As an OIF and 8 year Marine Corps veteran, I have always been disappointed with the portrayal of Marines on film. There's usually something wrong with the uniforms, the lingo, the attitude, or something and it tends to make the story unbelievable to real Marines. But they got everything right this time (well as close as they could). I was with 3rd AAV Battalion in '03 so I wasn't too far behind these guys. Watching this series gave me chills at points and I laughed at things no one else could understand. It sent me right back to Camp Matilda. I relived my whole war experience while watching this. I remember driving through those crossed swords too! The best part is the dialogue. I have been trying to explain how Marine communicate with each other and the is the best example I could give. Bottom line, if you want to get taste of true Marine Corps culture, watch this immediately!!! Its as accurate as I have ever seen. The attention to detail is outstanding and those characters are found all around the Corps.
Movie Review: Generation Kill - A Recon Mom's View Summary: 5 Stars
My son is a U.S. Marine currently in training in his 1st of 5 different schools to earn the title Recon Marine. He's in the pipeline as we way. Up until last night I hadn't seen the series. I watched the entire series in one sitting. I am Mom. It hits me differently. First, I read the book. I was not entertained, I was being prepared and educated. I am the one who motivates him and supports him from home. I'm no sissy, I have to take it all in. Some of the Marines portrayed are still active duty. I will purchase the DVD set when it's available in December. I don't get the Semper Fudge thing, but as a Marine Mom, I say Semper Fidelis and Semper Gumby. Always Faithful, Always Flexible. I'm glad America is watching. Sometimes I think we forget the silent skies after September 11th. I'm also glad it's not another Hollywood piece of crap war movie. This is the real deal. It's not props, not all special effects, but it sure is effective. No wonder so many men shrink away from the opportunity to serve. Ooh-Rah.
Movie Review: This is one series not to miss Summary: 5 Stars
I decided to rent this series for my brothers birthday. A avid collector of war memorabilia he had served in the military but had missed any active duty in a warzone. We always would watch war movies on his birthday, what I did not expect is that the whole family, including my 17 year old niece would sit glued to the TV for the whole night/morning. Yes, I said morning. We finished at 2 am, including the short interview with the actual marines.
This series highlights the lack of support our military receives from those of us left back here at home. These people are risking their lives for something they believe in, our way of life, yet they cannot receive basic foundational supplies and logistics? Unbelievable. The recorded out takes during the credit rolls on the last disk are heart breaking but oh so true. It is a shame that gossip about which celebrity screwed who is more Newsworthy that what our military deal with on a daily basis.
Movie Review: Invasion Vet on Invasion Show Summary: 5 Stars
Convenient product placement the main description points out up top when the pizza comes. Well yes it is, but it is also Pizza Hut that we did in fact get before the invasion. J.Lo's death rumor? Yes, it was a big concern for us before the invasion. Swearing and machismo? Its a bunch of young men away from home in a foreign war-torn land, you'll get that from time to time. This series brought back memories of the invasion I'd even forgotten over time. It shows how people can hate groups of people, but still be close as hell to those types of people because they are your fellow Marines. It shows the confusion of war, the lack of leadership and a plan we often saw, and the vacuum left behind after us and that swallowed us as well. I thought it was great, maybe someone who doesnt understand the lingo, the nitty gritty military details, or the background wouldnt, but I loved it.
