Movie Reviews of Garbage: Absolute Garbage

Movie Review: Absolute Garbage...absolute delight
Summary: 5 Stars

The first time I heard Garbage, I was in a friend's car. He had a tape of the debut album. The song playing was "Supervixen". I remember I had to ask him what was wrong with the tape because the guitar kept stopping. When he said that was how the song went, I became intrigued and bought the album. Thus began my journey to becoming a fan of this most remarkable group. Now, watching this DVD it is as though I have rediscovered what drew me to this group. When you hear Garbage, it strikes your sense of hearing in a good way by the powerful and beautiful voice of Shirley Manson. In a great compliment to such a melodic voice come the musical talents of Duke Erikson, Steve Marker and Butch Vig. What emerges is not only a great sound, but also a unique one. This DVD succeeds in capturing the band in a similar fashion. Watch the videos in a play all fashion you can observe how the band evolved both in appearance as well as musically. Each video is creative and unique just like the band. It is, however, not over there. Proceeding after the videos is an insightful, humorous and profound documentary that shows the band behind the scenes. In the years 1995-2005, you can see firsthand the camaraderie while simply hanging out and that same camaraderie that followed while they performed on stage. The footage of concerts made me feel both happy and sad. I was happy that that after ten years they were still together after having been through their own "emotional landslide" and sad that only once have I seen a Garbage show live (Okay, not entirely sad as it was indeed a wonderful time in my life.) In my opinion, any fan of Garbage should not be without this DVD and for those just discovering Garbage will receive a rare treat such that new fans may be born. This will be one DVD I will continue to watch with much fondness in the years to come.

Movie Review: Absolutely for Fans
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been a fan of the group Garbage ever since I saw their video on MTV for "I'm Only Happy When It Rains" and this collection, even though some videos are missing or different, it was a real treat for me to finally see them all. I actually just remember seeing videos for "Queer", "Stupid Girl", and "Special", so having all the rest on one DVD is great. The "Thanks For Your Uhh, Support" documentary footage was informative and comical at times. Shirley is so cute and funny. I didn't know the whole story of how the band formed and I knew even less of each of the members. I have more respect and appreciation for the band and all their music after seeing this documentary. I rarely think about all the hard work and amount of time that goes into actually creating songs, let alone, making an entire album. Kudos for them for making all their songs and albums!
I do have to agree with some other reviewers on here that it would have been nice if there were some live performances, but all in all, I enjoyed the entire DVD. The videos look awesome and very creative. The music videos also follow the CD sequence, which is also cool.
Hopefully in the future they will release a live concert dvd plus bonus videos, but this will serve my Garbage addiction for now. I also hope, like many fans, that this isn't the end of their music.
Great music from talented artists.
Thanks Shirley, Steve, Duke, and Butch for all the wonderful music. Please make more.

Movie Review: Great DVD - A must have for all fans!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was introduced to Garbage a little over 10 years - they were the first band I saw live in concert and I've been following them since.

I've been waiting for a video collection from them for years - they always have interesting music videos and put on a great show - Fortunately they finally released one and it was well worth the wait!

The DVD features 15 of their music videos - I did notice that not all of them are on here though. "Sex is not the enemy" and "Androgyny" for example, are not included on the DVD (I believe the DVD is missing a total of 5 videos).

Other videos included on the DVD (such as "When I Grow Up") have different footage than the original (the original video for this song was a tie-in with footage for the movie Big Daddy - the one included on this set is live footage of the band in concert). I personally think this is an improvement, but thought it was worth noting.

The 'extra' footage on the DVD comes in the form of behind the scenes footage collected over the years. A fun video to watch if you're into the band but a live concert would've been preferred - with that said, they could've included much less so I won't complain!

If you're a Garbage fan, this disc is a must have. If for nothing else, the Only Happy When It Rains video!

Movie Review: All the Garbage Music Video I Needed
Summary: 5 Stars

Garbage was once one of my favourite bands...and still is. It's absolutely amazing that they decided to release a music video collection. Although there's no "Androgyny" (the song I hate) let's be happy for the things that there is.

I had never seen the music videos "Vow", "Milk", "Shut Your Mouth", "Bleed Like Me", and the new one "Tell Me Where It Hurts" - so I was happy to see these masterworks for the first time.

Also the music videos I had seen "Queer", "Only Happy When It Rains", "Stupid Girl", "Push It", "I Think I'm Paranoid", "Special", "When I Grow Up", "You Look So Fine", "The World Is Not Enough" (The James Bond soundtrack), "Cherry Lips [Go Baby Go]", "Why Do You Love Me" were great to see for a long time.

Each of these music videos are an original classic - quality that hardly anyone can beat.

The document which lasts 70 minutes are also a very interesting one. It tells about Garbage's history with old picture material. The interviews are interesting and now how the Garbage started their carriere.

Movie Review: Gotta love the Greatest of GARBAGE!
Summary: 5 Stars

I watched this dvd over several times and never got tired of it! O.K. it is missing a few great songs but I'll take it for what it is. The videos were a real treat as I have not seen some in years. But was really great was the story of Garbage. It shows the early stages and interviews from 1995 all the way to a live show in 2005! Butch, Duke , Steve, and SHIRLEY! They seemed to have so much fun on the road and really did have a great bond and band!! I love Garbage music and hope they will make more of it. All of their cd collection is worth having. There music is in a class by itself. It is Garbage, but that is a compliment to their sound!! The band really rocks on all of their songs but hey guys is it just me or is Shirley Manson just one really great, Sexy in your face rocker?? Shirley looks different in almost every video and she carries it off well! Look at her in Queer, the kind of dirty look all the way to the glamour of the World is not Enough. Shirley really looks great in every video.
