Movie Reviews of Game of Death

Movie Review: its not Lee's concept, but its not a bad movie...if you let it be
Summary: 3 Stars

Most people are pissed (and rightly so) that this is Not what Bruce Lee had envisioned the film to be, he died suddenly in 1973 and what remained was just unfinished ideas.
Most of the footage left shot was re-takes after re-takes being Lee was such a perfectionist.

In a Warriors Story documentary, you see the remaining footage edited together nicely in what would have been the ending of the movie.
That being said........the directors of Games of Death did not have access to Lee's notes or what his vision was for the movie, this movie came out in 1978....5 full years after he died, and who knows when they actually started on it...1976? who knows.

What you get is a decent story line, good Amircian actors, good mucic score. Actually the production quality of this movie ranks about the best of any Lee movie (exception Enter the Dragon).

The stand in are good.

If you just watched this movie for the very first time and knew NOTHING about its background, you'd say it wasnt bad at all.

What we get is a directors vision of a movie and uses the last footage of Bruce Lee, to me thats not bad.
I do wish the director used all of the Lee footage, and got them other 2 guys with him back to make it a better movie, but it is what it is.

BUT I must say this.........now that the original Bruce Lee notes and ideas and lost footage has been found.

Please Hollywood.....or Harvest Moon Productions, make a authentic "Games Of Death" to the best of your abilities, making it what Lees vision was. Using todays computer enhancements and technology, Im sure a decent film came be rendered......actually, one could almost make a version themselves on their own personal computer using all the footage available, maybe someone will.

Movie Review: any bruce lee is above average, it get's a 3 for his name alone.
Summary: 3 Stars

It's kinda sucks watching something when you are constantly thinking about what it coudl have been. Allow me to go over the clssic robert clouse script. Billy Lo, which rhymes with jeet kune do, is a movie actor who looks like he is shooting the ending of the chinese connection when he realizes somebody is trying to kill him. I gues they are trying to kill him because he is making good movies. So now he has to fake his death and get away. This really is easily one of the worst movies ever, but is really saved by the action. Watching bruce work the numchucks or just pounding someone with a little pointer stick or something is really really great. His fight with kareem is a little sloppy but extremely original.

So once again this movie is hard to watch because you are always thinking about what it could have been.

If you liked this at all I would suggest you check out the documentaries that go over what he wanted this movie to be.

If this movie would have been made by woo-ping, it would have been one of the best ever, just look at GM 2. I mean seriously, did robert clouse ever make a movie before he did enter the dragon or was that just his only good one. The story in battle creek brawl stomps on this movie and that was a horrible movie.

Movie Review: Real Bruce Lee Scences Make this Movie A Must Have
Summary: 3 Stars

Bruce Lee died not having finished this picture (he put it on hol dto make and promote Enter the Dragon). Robert Clouse directs in 1977 to complete the film, but the plot is completely changed. Silly camera tricks, Lee footage cut out and doubles used take a different approach than Lee in fight scenes.

The movie excells when Bruce is on screen. The fight between Lee and his personal friend Danny Inosanto is brillant. Of course it is cut by Close, but no matter, the presence of these two greats is outstanding. The fight with Kareem is fun and Lee's humor shines. The acting by Dean Jagger as the head villain is also a good performance.

While the camera tricks to show Bruce Lee's face on the doubles body is laughable, the film and concept are not that bad - it is the "rudeness" of changing the concept and "tricks" that are so offensive.

One last note, the musical score is surprisingly good.

Movie Review: Other Lee Movies Are Better
Summary: 3 Stars

I cannot say anything BAD about Bruce Lee's movies. I am biased becaused I am a BIG FAN. But with all his movies this one has to come last. Just because most of it isn't the DRAGON himself. They put in a double who did a pretty good job imitating the "moves". Props to him, definitely. But there is only ONE BRUCE LEE. It's still worth owning (I know I do), because of the legendary fight scenes that are in it. The pure-ness of his "no-style" style. If you decide to buy this...then you HAVE TO buy Return of the Dragon and Enter The Dragon to say the least. Chinese Connection and Fists of Fury also go on the list. Respect the Legend. Respect the Dragon. Peace to you and Good Health.

One Love.

Movie Review: A mob boss tries to muscle in
Summary: 3 Stars

The first scene is a rare fight between Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee.
Late in a reenactment of the last scene of "Fist of Fury"
that actor Bruce Lee is playing is shot in the face.
He stages his death and sets out to exact his revenge.
His girl friend is kidnapped sparking the final showdown.
This movie has many later martial arts stars in it and is the last Bruce Lee
movie as he died under mysterious circumstances during the filming.
