Movie Reviews of G3 - Live in Denver

Movie Review: Joe! Steve! Yngwie! G3 '03!
Summary: 5 Stars

This a great concert with once again on the G3 03' tour with the masters of modern shredding rock n roll! the filming was excellant with special features added in to the dvd like fretboard cam mode! just a alot fun to watch these masters. for all those who play guitar including myself, everytime I see these guys I never get bored!
steve vai with his triple necked guitar, wait till you see that!! and with such geat stage present with differant tricks thrown in! joe is always a must to see, smiling with joy you can tell he loves what he dose and comes out in his playing! and malmsteen the classical rock god useing old plexi marshall heads (it looks like, maybe re-issue 87'...) with a lot of stacks (some might be empty)anyway a true wonder to watch and dream "if I could only play like that!" then when you think it's over... at the end a full jam out with everybody and all the differant guitar playing styles and sounds! excellant! buy this dvd well worth the "little money" a whole $12.00 (weeeeeee, big deal) for it compared too the other concerts of the same caliber!!

Movie Review: Guitar virtuosity is still appreciated!
Summary: 5 Stars

I enjoy all three players;they played their hearts out.It was a nice contrast having Satch and Vai's legato style phrasing with Malmsteem's ferocious picking style; his vibrato is awsome! Anyone who puts down Yngwie is also putting down Satch and Vai they would not have played with him if they didn't respect his playing.I think a lot of people put him down out of jealousy to play at his level requires too much discipline. Also he pioneered a new style of playing which the critics have never done. Also the person who said Macalpine should have played instead of Yngwie does'nt realize that Macalpine's style is based on Yngwie original style. Like Eddie V, everyone was ripping off his style when he first came out . As for the guy who put down his looks... you listen to music with your ears. Overall a great performance by all three players but the improv on the jam songs is where the magic happens exspecially Vai's innovative rhythms and breathtaking solos. So for all the critics Whats on your resume of musical accomplishments? Probably nothing.

Movie Review: G3 FOREVER
Summary: 5 Stars

I was lucky enough to be in the audience at the original G3 show that was filmed at Northrup Auditorium in 1996. One thing that did not make it on film was Adrian Legg's opening act. The virtuosity he presented on acoustic was one of the most memorable parts of the show. While G3 in Denver is different than the G3 #1 show it surely is just as memorable for me. Satch will always be my favorite guitarist of all time, with Steve Vai running an extremely close second. I have been a fan of Yngwie's music since I first heard Rising Force. While I enjoyed his Live in Japan and Leningrad videos he does not dissappoint here. Of course most instrumental Guitar music is self indulgent and inaccessible to some. This DVD is made with guitarists in mind and if you're looking for meaningful lyrical content you won't find it here. Rockin In The Free World was yet another great choice for a jam song by Joe. Little Wing is a song that MUST be played by everyone who is serious about playing guitar and one of the greatest songs ever written!

Movie Review: THE Concert......nothing more to say
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw the G3'03 in pensacola in Nov 1 2003 (First row center) and I have to say it was the best of the best, back then I only could say "I hope they make a DVD" and FINALLY it's here, Vai's Triple Jem, Satch's New Candy Red and the classics Chrome Boy and Flames, and Yngwie with his Strats and his skills... WOW...
Of course I would have loved FULL SETS on the DVD (the total show time was less than 3 hours, but you only get about 2 on the DVD), but the cool thing is that you can almost complete the sets of songs with the G3'03 Rokin' in the Free World CD...
Cool CAMERA (cooler FRET-CAM), Excellent SOUND and OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES...guys:it doesn't get much better than that. Remember that this is not a guitar lesson, it's a concert...THE CONCERT...I highly suggest to get both DVD and CD and get ready to enjoy the way electric guitar is really played...

Movie Review: Yngwie at his best.
Summary: 5 Stars

First of all, I bought this DVD because of Yngwie. You may like him or hate him,but he's one of the greatest. For me he still sounds fresh, like in his early days. His playing is neither boring, nor outdated. For me he's just an innovator,a pre-Eddie Van Halen player, opposite Vai(I still consider Vai an Eddie wannabe) and Satriani.None of the formers has contributed anything to guitar playing, but breaking the speed of light playing that Eddie left years ago.Would they ever invite Eddie Van Halen to a G3 tour?Nope!!!He's second to none, they would never expose themselves to such a thing.Anyway, this G3 DVD is very amusing to watch to, well produced, with a good playlist and wonderful sound. It's also quite interesting to see this three guitar players at the end of the DVD jamming together, with such a good result. If you are mad about Rock and guitar playing, you won't be disapointed.A must buy.
