Movie Review: G3 evolutions

well,
i love all g3s and I have to say that everyone of them has his own good and bad things...
on this i would say eric johnson ( I KNOW HE IS A GREAT GUITARRIST AND GOD BLESS HIM) really doesnt match with satch and vai... because he's more the calm guy with his headphones on ( he has had a tinnitus for years.... thats why) bu yngwie matches more.... but of course yngwie is not that melodic .... eric acts really as a pole of calmness in this concert...
but the things i like on the old g3 more is that satriani had still his dimarzio PAF Pro bridge humbucker pickup and not the new PAF Joe that he designed and first used on the denver-yngwie concert.... a good listener can hear the difference immediateley... and i didnt like it...
i love his old "flying in a blue dream" mellow-gain sound
and not this new hard rock gain like on all the new g3s
about vai i just can say he is awesome...
maybe not on this dvd... ( ok for the love of god is an awesome song but thats it) but certainly on the yngwie-g3 and the newest tokyo g3.... vai is just a dream ... EVO rocks... and so does PIA and all the other JEMs
i just can say that if you have one g3 you should go for the rest... so the other 2 ... then you will have the best of every guitarist and fun for many many weeks, months, years, lifetimes...
so have fun
PS: 4 stars because alone its not perfect... they only perfect if you have all the g3s

Movie Review: Great show

I'm surprised to see some people are down on Steve Vai's performance on this dvd. As far as I'm concerned this is a G4 (with Mike Kenneally). Vai's music is unique and is probably not as melodic or catchy as Satch's or EJ's, but the performance by him and Mike Keneally breathtaking. Esp the attitude song piece is incredible. It's just great to see two great guitarists coming to a harmony like that. (You gotta love Mike Kenneally for his low profile attitude!!!) If you like Zappa, this should get you exciting.If you like EJ, manhattan on this DVD has to be the best performance by far. The harmoney EJ and Roscoe Beck is creating is just beautiful (despite the fact that some people might complain about mistakes EJ is making.). I've seen EJ's live show with his alient love child band several times, and the song doesn't sound as good as this one.
Satch is well Satch. He has a great sense of melodies, and he plays so great with what he can do. But as usual, that's all i can say about him. It becomes painfully obvious when the three play together for some blues tones. He just doesn't have the musical sense of Vai or EJ to keep up with them. But that's just my opinion.
Regardless any instrumental rock fan would appreciate this. I haven't seen the latest one with Yngwie yet, but i would imagine it's not going to be as good as this one.
Movie Review: Good Stuff This!

For those of you guitar music lovers, (mostly men, I guess), this is a great intro to three of the biggest names in guitar-centric music. More importantly, this is a great opportunity to get a load of Steve Vai's performance antics. He's a hoot! I still can't get over Satriani trading in his hair for a pair of sunglasses. He looks like Billy Corgan. The biggest treasure of this performance is Eric Johnson. I never heard him play before. He writes the most accessible music of the three and I am a new fan. All in all, a great success. Just, please wear a closed shirt next time, Steve. You should be heard more, and seen less.Movie Review: You have to get this G3 DVD and then get the other two

If you are not an instrumental rock'n roll fan and your blood doesn't boil with some extreme overdrive and other guitar effects, this is not for you. If you are a rock guitar player, this is a must-have. Satriani and Vai, as the backbone of the G3 extravaganza, deliver some of their famous songs with the usual energy and virtuosity. Eric Johnson, I have to say, has a very different personality, melodic approach, and technique from Vai and Satriani, but I think this contrast makes the first edition of G3 a unique jewel that you don't want to miss. This stuff is the [best] ,the three best instrumentilists of 1996 all in one concert (the names are joe satriani, steve vai and my personal favourite eric johnson) with a biography for each of them , including the finally with all three Gs playing together in jimmi hendrix's very own RED HOUSE also going down and my guitar wnts to kill tour mama( also one of my favourites). if you like instrumentals like i do this is a must buy.you can even choose whatsong you wnt to listen to. I only gave it 4 stars because the song selection is very limited and u can't really hear the voices too well.
